Plot Summary: Based on the best selling novel by Philippa Gregory, "The Other Boleyn Girl" is an engrossing and sensual tale of intrigue, romance, and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in history. Two sisters, Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) Boleyn, are driven by their ambitious father and uncle to advance the family's power and status by courting the affections of the King of England (Eric Bana). Leaving behind the simplicity of country life, the girls are thrust into the dangerous and thrilling world of court life – and what began as a bid to help their family develops into a ruthless rivalry between Anne and Mary for the love of the king. Initially, Mary wins King Henry's favor and becomes his mistress, bearing him an illegitimate child. But Anne, clever, conniving, and fearless, edges aside both her sister and Henry's wife, Queen Katherine of Aragon, in her relentless pursuit of the king. Despite Mary's genuine feelings for Henry, her sister Anne has her sights set on the ultimate prize; Anne will not stop until she is Queen of England. As the Boleyn girls battle for the love of a king – one driven by ambition, the other by true affection – England is torn apart. Despite the dramatic consequences, the Boleyn girls ultimately find strength and loyalty in each other, and they remain forever connected by their bond as sisters.

I cannot wait for this one. An extraordinary book, and the casting is so very intriguing that I can't wait to see what they do with it as a film.

Allow me to preface my post so that it can have the full value and force that it deserves. I love this period of history. I have two degrees in Renaissance drama. I would love nothing more than to spend my entire life studying this era, and would do so if I could make a living at it.

That said, I walked out. I was bored at best, and rolled my eyes so many times I lost count. I'm usually too much a stickler of liking movies that follow books faithfully, but with this one, they really did ruin it by leaving behind some great boundaries. It bounced all over very quickly in the beginning, not really settling on how it was going to approach the story line. The characters were absolutely undeveloped much at all. I cannot answer for the acting of the majority of the cast, because I didn't much like the acting of the stars, and I like all three of them. Johansson (sp?) was pretty convincing, Portman got better as it went, and Bana I think would have been okay with any kind of decent script. Jeesh, even the music was bad. Couldn't take it. I had to leave.

Sorry to hear that. It must have been really, really bad for you to walk out. I didn't even walk out of The Village, so I can't imagine how bad this movie must have been. ;)

I thought it was a good movie. Linder and I watched it over the weekend. It ended about how I expected it to. Glad I watched it.

You hated it that ^ much, but you added it to your queue? ...does not compute.

I just discovered another adaptation of the book, so I added it to my Netflix queue.

edit: Or are you saying you found another movie (not the one this thread is about) & you added THAT one to your queue? If so, who's in it, how old is it, etc.?

I did enjoy the movie, all in all. Felt bad for the brother; didn't know any of the history of Anne Boleyn
(other than the decapitation),
so it was interesting.

Yep, I did find another movie of the same name based on the same book. Apparently it was a TV movie over in England with a bunch of unknowns. I'll try it out. The other Other Boleyn girl was just awful. The acting was atrocious, Bana as Henry was simply 'blah', and in no way did it inspire me to watch the whole thing.
