Yeah, but the DBs just have no excuse to let Golden get behind them. Obviously, Texas saw it coming and they audibeld to max protection and blocked it perfectly. If an offense changes protection a lot of times the defense will also audible out of a blitz but we didn't.

This is what Kenny Dillingham had to say about it.

I don't know if Leavitt is a better QB or not (that is a pointless discussion in general, imho) - but man is he a baller and definitely a better runner. Felt a little Fran Tarkenton for a bit. I swear that he wore out the UT D-line by making them chase him all over the place, not to mention the ToP discrepancy. And that helped Cam get his yards in the second half. I also suspect that ASU defense stayed much fresher with more sideline time and no mobile QB to run after.

I also don't know how ASU stopped Helm from being involved in the game sooner - he is a leading target, usually - and I am not sure why ASU stopped doing it. Or if UT wasn't calling his number, why they forgot it until the end.

And on the Ewers INT, that play call was way more dumb than any blitz call in OT. There was absolutely no reason to throw the ball deep (Ewer's weakness, as shown repeatedly in the game) when UT has the short pass and running game working at that point in time.

A well-played game by ASU despite the loss. At 4th and 13 I was feeling like it was about over.

Yeah but they should have never been in that position. As soon a Texas had seen the blitz you could see the offense calling it out. At that moment the defense should have audibled out of the blitz or they should have called a timeout.

Great game. But, seeing how clueless Alford was on that play was just a special kind of stupid. Incredible. It just takes one Jenga piece to bring it all down and he sure did right there.
He was looking in the backfield. He got lost in the moment.

Yes, we should've called off the blitz or called a timeout. But as a DB you can't be watching the backfield while a WR starts to run by you.

Yup the main problem is we showed it way too early. If you're going to blitz in that situation, you can't show it that early.

Still damn proud of the team!! Remember when the goal of this team was to go to a bowl game? Instead they give us one helluva ride to the college playoff quarterfinals and gave the 15 point favorite (not kidding) a run for their money.

Skattebo is simply not human. He's a cyborg from the future

It's always nice to see I know what I am talking about. He will regret that a long time, which sucks considering how amazing it was that we even had the lead.

Damn. Coach confirmed it. Man we had our chances and Skat will be gone. I hope this boosts our recruiting.

BTW, Skattebo finished the season proving he was indeed better than any of the four guys who finished ahead of him in the Heisman balloting. The voting for that shouldn't be done until after the entire season is over.
Maybe not the same, but a Vince youngesque performance regarding the heisman snub. trying not to be over the top, but I can't think of a game recently where one guy just made so many big time plays doing all the talking going in and backing it up. that TD pass was a hell of a call and well executed. and the run he made breaking that tackle by the goaline was awesome.

I felt the same about that 3rd down in the first ASU OT possession where texas let ASU's QB run for the first down on third and long. they got outsmarted on that play. also on the fake punt earlier in the game. after what georgia did to them you would think texas would be alert to it.

Crazy great game.

Showed the disparity of talent. The speed and size of texas was very evident. It was only dilly’s coaching, a lot of throwing caution the wind and Skattebo that kept asu right there.

Dilly is going to need Leavitt to take it to the next level year because no matter the rb stable, they won’t have another Skattebo.

That fourth down blitz is gonna eat at me all night. Just keep everything In front of you and rally to the ball. Horrible horrible decision
The thing is, if the blitz gets home everyone is all “great play call” or “way to be aggressive”. I didn’t mind the blitz call but the moment it was picked up nothing good would come of it.

I am sick of watching coaches nads shrivel up late in games or OT.

Yeah, no doubt you just cannot let a receiver get behind you in that situation. It’s the thing I preach from day one with my defensive backs. But the blitz was unnecessary. They hadn’t been getting home all day. They were facing a superior offensive line. And their defensive had been playing well. Don’t purposefully imbalance your defense in an all or nothing gambit when they were in a very difficult 4th and long. It was spectacularly a bad call.

Yeah, Skattebo is a one of a kind player, especially in football. One of those guys who can almost singlehandedly will the whole team to victory. That won't be easy to replace.

The ewers int call was idiotic. The fact that texas refused to just hash asu on the ground all game helped keep asu hanging around.

Dilly is a much better coach than sark imo.
