Get your season tickets for next year folks. Leavitt and most of our starters are coming back and we are bringing in a big RB from Army who is a 1000 yard rusher.

He’s a good get. But I don’t think most fans realize how many yards Skattebo created outta smoke and mirrors. He is going to be a MASSIVE loss.

I don't know if Leavitt is a better QB or not (that is a pointless discussion in general, imho) - but man is he a baller and definitely a better runner. Felt a little Fran Tarkenton for a bit. I swear that he wore out the UT D-line by making them chase him all over the place, not to mention the ToP discrepancy. And that helped Cam get his yards in the second half. I also suspect that ASU defense stayed much fresher with more sideline time and no mobile QB to run after.

I also don't know how ASU stopped Helm from being involved in the game sooner - he is a leading target, usually - and I am not sure why ASU stopped doing it. Or if UT wasn't calling his number, why they forgot it until the end.

And on the Ewers INT, that play call was way more dumb than any blitz call in OT. There was absolutely no reason to throw the ball deep (Ewer's weakness, as shown repeatedly in the game) when UT has the short pass and running game working at that point in time.

A well-played game by ASU despite the loss. At 4th and 13 I was feeling like it was about over.

agree with all of this. it did feel like Texas could have used helm more and the short yardage passing game in general to supplement their run game to keep the clock moving. ASU really adjusted well after giving up that first TD. IDK what Sark and Ewers were thinking on that deep shot. yeah they could have scored on a great throw, but that extended the game as well when you needed to run clock and were really moving it well.

Nah, football is about more than having balls. It’s also about being smart. Given the down and distance abd momentum and opponent that blitz was not a smart call.

it is a Monday morning QB situation. of corse it's a bad call when it doesn't work. players are supposed to adjust and make the play against the defense that is called. Texas got super conservative on ASU's first OT sequence by dropping 7 into coverage and not preparing for the QB to run. and he ran for a back breaking first down that led to the TD. before that it looked like Texas was going to at least put ASU in a 4th and long situation which would have put ASU in a tough situation to kick or go for it. The texas defense should have been more aggressive in that situation.

It was an unnecessary gamble. What was it, 4th and 14? Just play solid base defense keeping everything in front of you.

I think the attempt at pressure makes sense there if you want to stop em before the sticks. I usually like that aggressiveness because you limit Ewers decision making in the pocket by limiting time. Yet, if you do, you need to absolutely make sure your safeties don't do what Alford did in that moment. A timeout for our dumbfounded DB would have been huge. It was an epic **** up.

Crazy great game.

Showed the disparity of talent. The speed and size of texas was very evident. It was only dilly’s coaching, a lot of throwing caution the wind and Skattebo that kept asu right there.

Dilly is going to need Leavitt to take it to the next level year because no matter the rb stable, they won’t have another Skattebo.

I would add it was clear ASU made some halftime adjustments because the team looked different. Dillingham has a great group of coaches that made a huge difference

true and you are right. But the blitz was bothering Ewers and the texas offense earlier in the game. it worked a lot. I don't think it was a terrible idea. it didn't work because Texas made the adjustment.

Agreed. As you pointed out, Leavitt needs to take a huge step but I think the WRs do as well. Outside of Tyson and Metayer, there just wasn’t much production.

True but with this experience under their belt and all the returners next year think I they are posed to have a very good season and it is very season ticket worthy. Leavitt will contend for the Heisman and the team should be one of the faves for the Big12 title.

I just don’t agree with all out blitz, they stoned it and our DBs were exposed. Even if we bring 5 I’m good with that but would have played to the sticks and take my chances.

All about the transfer portal. If this year of excitement around the program nationally is any indication, it's going to bring in a lot of talent. That's definitely exciting.

This. All day this. I was screaming”NO BLITZ!” Lost the game on that call. Terrible.

As soon as I saw them all lined up for a full blitz on that 4th and 13 play I did the same thing. Yelling please don’t blitz, and to bail before snap. You just can’t make that call for that exact situation in the game. Force everything short of the sticks and rally. Single worst call of the year by DC. Call timeout and get everyone 100% on same page

I think the biggest issue is, in this current world, it will be difficult for any Big12 team to be in this same place. I think it is fait accompli that automatic bids for conference winners will be gone in favor of a “better” seeding system. That of course means no bye but it may, in the short term, lead to home games in round 1.

The Big12 will rarely ever have more than one team in (two at most) so the only way to get in is to win the conference. That is no easy task.

The last 10 years there have been 5 different champions and that was with Texas and Oklahoma being in the conference 9 of those years. Again, tough mountain to climb.

Losing this is tough. 4th and 13 is tough. Just don’t forget to remember just how fun this season and that game was because, even though we all believe ASU is trending in the right direction, a return to this point is never a given

I don't know the difference between defenseless receiver vs. targeting or if they are the same. I also thought there was a defenseless receiver hit on the ASU interception that they reviewed. I know that wasn't a hit to the head, but the player's head and neck were jarred and he was defenseless. the game also isn't rigged because ASU would not have won the game on that play and texas surely did not.

In the end it was another heartbreaker for an Arizona football team. So close to glory, only to see it get snatched away. All those other times.... "The program has arrived, we will be back next year, etc etc". Only to see it crumble back to mediocrity in a couple of seasons.

Next year we won't sneak up on anybody and will have a target on us. It's going to be a lot tougher next year.

for all the bad calls and I don't think there were that many, this was a game filled with great plays and bold decisions by both coaches. many posters here said that the ASU coach would have some risk/reward plays to close the gap and he did that multiple times. I thought that the blitz was very effective for ASU. for about 2 quarters in the game it gave Texas a lot of fits. it also forced several false starts.

I clearly don’t understand what a “defenseless receiver” is. Dude catches the ball and is making football moves is not defenseless to me.

100% that was forcible contact to the head.

The fact he was down with an injury shouldn’t necessarily be the decider. What if the head bounced off the turf and that is what caused the injury.

Don’t get me wrong. I think it was targeting based on the forcible contact issue but even the rules guy they brought in wasn’t definitive. He said “I would not be surprised if this was called targeting”. To me he wasn’t firm on his conviction. Maybe he is just trying to hedge but if so that is weak sauce.

The rigged thing is ludicrous and ruins his whole complaint
