I was waiting for this film to come out but now after seeing the trailer I feel Ive already seen the entire movie. They give away too much of the suspense and often ruin the experience with these trailers. I'm still looking forward to seeing the rest of it though.

Hope Leo gets that Oscar.

He's great in the movie, but I don't think it's an Oscar winning kind of thing.

But maybe... I don't think there's a runaway best actor choice right now.

Totally agree.

after seeing all the big performances this year, I think Leo probably wins in more of a lifetime achievement Oscar. He's really good in the movie, but I don't think it's his best work. But he's an incredible actor and has been passed up numerous times and this feels like the year he'll get it.

Happened with Scorsese and Lord of the Rings, so it's not unprecedented. I think based on body of work, Leo deserves the statue.

Yeah, Leo has been excellent and is quite good in this film as well. Renevant is an impressive piece of filmmaking, but something about the movie left me flat though, not quite sure what. Maybe it was because my pet peeve in films is when characters have unrealistic physical strength after suffering serious bodily harm (i.e. power punching and wrestling right after getting a big knife through the hand). Also, I thought once the story got going, outside of the bear and the Elk scenes it was rather predictable.

definitely agree with Scorsese's lifetime achievement award. Out of all the movies to win for, The Departed just felt like amateur hour. Don't agree with Lord though. I thought ROTK was easily the best of the trilogy (all of which I loved).

and i have no problem with Leo getting the statue. Dude's the best actor in the business right now, IMO.

I loved ROTK the best as well, but was it really the best movie of the year that year? I think it might have been, but there will be a lot of people that would argue Lost in Translation or even Mystic River should have won instead. Wasn't Mystic River considered a shoe-in at the time? I don't remember.

I'd argue pretty hard against both of those movies in favor of ROTK. And that's coming from someone who really liked Lost In Translation a lot.

I'm still trying to figure out what all the hype is about with this movie.

There were some good scenes, but overall I agree with Stout this movie pretty much sucked. I was like dude, we get it, this guy is having a REALLY bad week.
I felt like, when Leo made his final gaze into the camera (in what I thought was a really lame move by the director) I seriously imagined him looking at me and saying; "Dude, you just watched me crawl around in the snow for 3 hours.... Sucker." I mean, there were basically 2 main plotlines in this movie, and one of them amounted to absolutely NOTHING in the end.

Didn't hate it but best picture? Really? Over the likes of Ex machina, Mad Max, and Spotlight? No freaking way. Not even close. I even thought The Big Short, Room, The Martian were all better films. I didn't even like Bridge of Spies but if you forced me to go see one of those films again I would see Bridge of Spies, no question.

I will say however, Tom Hardy was phenomenal in this, as he always seems to be.

I can't think of what ROTK is? Is it one of tbe Lord of the Rings movie titles?
