OK, so the overall vibe I am getting is Leo is great but wait for Redbox or Netflix? I have a Christmas gift card burning a hole in my pocket and I can't decide what to use it on or just wait. I was considering this but the wife was already...meh.

no... if you're gonna see it, it's a definite movie theater experience. The movie is massive and beautiful to watch on the big screen.

Thanks cheesebeef. I will have to work on convincing the wife. Some movies just are not the same at home.

His performance, which was good--not award-worthy, but I agree he's getting a career award here--doesn't save this movie. I'd pass on it if I were you. Or, if you can convince the theater to only charge for the first 1/3 of the movie, do that :)

It was okay...wait for video...cinematography was pretty amazing for the conditions they shot it...but the movie was average IMO.

Amazing. I don't know how any man could hate this movie. Nothing was cheese. Wouldn't change a thing. Hope he gets an Oscar.

Exactly. Just watch the first 1/3 of the movie, then just replay that part over, and over, and over, and over again in your mind. Boom, you just saw the rest of the movie and didn't have to sit through the final 4 hours of Leo crawling through the snow.

Because we are all individuals who are capable of formulating our own opinions about things.

Saw this on Saturday... it was ok, 1/2 hour too long. Not sure how you get an Oscar for crawling through the snow for 2 hours. As others have said, the bear scene was incredibly well done. Not sure how they would film something like that to make it so real looking. I can appreciate the physical strain it must have put on the actors/crew to film this. Conditions must have been brutal at times. Iñárritu directed Amores Perros also, a very powerful film that would be worth your time to watch imo, with subtitles though.

I will say, the scenery is fantastic, which I have experienced in person. I've fished the Bow River, played golf in Kananaskis and stayed at the Banff Springs Hotel... a fabulous place.

Edit to add.... a quick story... I was going fishing on Lake Minnnewanka and the boat captain told me to be there at 6, so I assumed he meant 6AM. I showed up and he wasn't there. I called and asked if I was in the wrong place, he said I was supposed to be there at 6 PM..eh. Huh?? Anyway, we fished until midnight and then had a fish fry at the dock... not sure it ever gets dark up there in the summer...lol

saw this again last weekend. if they chopped a half hour out of this, it probably would have been a masterpiece. as is, it's got some amazing sequences, but it's just too freaking long.

My wife's family is from the area. Lemmon, SD had a Red Carpet premiere and gala for it. Pretty funny, given the utter speck of dirt Lemmon is. We go there every other year and I'd never heard this story, but there are some amazing sculptures in the area of dude fighting a bear that now I understand.

I have to agree. Cinematography was amazing. The rest was pretty lackluster for me.

after seeing all the big performances this year, I think Leo probably wins in more of a lifetime achievement Oscar. He's really good in the movie, but I don't think it's his best work. But he's an incredible actor and has been passed up numerous times and this feels like the year he'll get it.

Yeah I'm not seeing it either. It wasn't even Leo's best performance but it's like people just want him to finally win an Oscar.

The funniest thing about this video is that it's old, so it doesn't include Wolf of Wal Street or the Revenant.

This could be about an hour longer now. lol

The music and cinematography are good.

Movie isn't that good.

You have to wait for the second half of the 6th hour of him crawling through the snow to see what happens. Spoiler alert, it involves going back into the snow and crawling through it some more.

Lol. I read all these comments before seeing it yesterday, and I was anticipating Leo crawling through the snow the entire movie, but was pleasantly surprised that it didn't necessarily turn out that way. Great acting, and great cinematography :)

To each their own my friend. I wouldn't bother being snarky about it I just felt like it could have been better. But Good art should be a bit polarizing right? :). Glad you enjoyed it tho. I'll be happy for Leo if he gets an Oscar. People tend to forget the guy has been acting close to 30 years. Been a long time coming.

Wasn't trying to single out your opinion on it or anything...I just thought what you said was funny is all lol. Definitely not a movie for everyone though. It has its shortfalls. Also, I thought Hardy did a good job too. That guy always plays a great bad ass

I thought I offended you in some way, so I felt bad lol. Hardy is just a legit bad ass. If you've ever seen Bronson, which was one of his first films...the guy can pretty much do anything.

I'm a huge fan of films with guys surviving in the wilderness, so I loved this one. Deserved all the award wins and nominations.

Yeah, Leo has been excellent and is quite good in this film as well. Renevant is an impressive piece of filmmaking, but something about the movie left me flat though, not quite sure what. Maybe it was because my pet peeve in films is when characters have unrealistic physical strength after suffering serious bodily harm (i.e. power punching and wrestling right after getting a big knife through the hand). Also, I thought once the story got going, outside of the bear and the Elk scenes it was rather predictable.

Never underestimate the power of adrenaline!
