1. Amare Stoudemire
2. Shawn Marion
3. Steve Nash
4. Kurt Thomas
5. Jim Jackson
6. Raja Bell
7. Leandro Barbosa
8. James Jones
9. Boris Diaw
10. Lucas Tischer
11. Dijon Thompson
12. Pat Burke
13. Brian Grant

Arizona Republic made it sound like Scott Padgett is a done deal now that Finley didn't sign. That makes 14.

Does anyone know the rules about the 14 player minimum? Does that include D-League players under contract? If they sent down Tischer and Dijon Thompson would they have to sign two more players?

Anyway, it looks like the team is done until the trade deadline and possibly something comes up with exception.

Rules on roster sizes in the new CBA:

- Each team must have 12 players on the active roster at all times. You are allowed a 2 week window if you drop to 11 to replace the player.

- Each team must have at least 1 player on the inactive roster at all times. The same 2 week window applies.

- The league average must be a total of 14 players per team (caluclated by days). If it fails to meet the average the league is responsible for paying the NBAPA a minimum salary contract for the number of player days they are short.

- A team may send 2 players to the NBADL off of their inactive list. They still count as a member of the inactive list while being on the DL team. A player may be recalled whenever the team desires, however there is a maximum of being sent down 3 times a season.

In other words we are above the maximum (which is 13 players per team), and any player that goes to the NBADL still counts for our roster totals.

So as it stands right now, and if we get Padgett, we can only send one guy to the NBDL (Tischer most likely), with Thompson or maybe Burke being inactive.

No we can send 2 players to the NBADL. A member on the NBADL still counts as a member of the inactive list.

So a team could have 12 people on the active roster and 1 player in the NBADL and they would be fine.

Also, if we were to sign a training camp guy like Stephen Graham we could only send 2 of the 3 projects down the NBADL. So it wouldn't make a ton of sense to get a 3rd guy unless we thought he wouldn't need NBADL time.

So basically, we're done until some player pops up that could fill a need and be nabbed for the trade exception.

Ugh. I don't like the idea of Stoudemire being the only player on the team 6' 10" or taller. And no, Burke doesn't count.

Gambo and Ash made it sound like Padgett won't be coming here anymore because he doesn't want to be the "10th" man. He would rather go to a team where he could get more playing time and showcase his abilities. I understand why Padgett feels this way, but I don't think he would be the 7th or 8th option off the bench for many teams. Hopefully he comes around and finalizes the deal, but it didn't exactly sound like it was a sure thing that he was coming here.

Apparently Padgett and the Suns agreed on terms over a month ago. But once Jones signed, Padgett and his agent backed out of the deal.

CLASSY.

It's hard to say. Jones is being viewed as mostly an SF/SG, but since he is about the same size as Marion he could be a PF too.

I'm not sure how much the Clippers are offering, but Padgett's situation behind Brand and Wilcox doesn't look much better than with the Suns. In both cases, the only way he gets playing time is either after a lot of injuries or he plays far better than he has in the past.

Would the Suns be better off with a tall guy who can block shots? Sure. But unless Lonnie Jones is a lot better than the NBA GM's seem to think, that option does not seem to be available.

.

This team can do great if our 3 All Stars all play like they're supposed to. If Marion and Nash can just maintain the status quo and Amare improves as much this year as he did last we should be legit.

Bottom line: if you've got last years MVP, THIS years MVP and a second tier All Star all on the same team with a nice group of experienced role players you SHOULD be a favorite to win it all!

Jackson, Grant, Thomas and Bell are all savvy dependable vet role players. If LB, Diaw and Jones can contribute even a few minutes a game we're set.

The only concern I have is Nash. I hope the Suns have a definite plan in place for limiting him to about 30 minutes a game. I say they've got to establish some kind of alternate offence when Nash is out. Maybe some kind of high post thing with Amare. Maybe when Nash is out we turn into the Pistons with our all defence lineup.

Thomas
Amare
Marion
Bell
LB

These 5 players have the potential to be one of the top 3 defensive lineups in the league.

I second that concern and I'm alarmed at the seeming indifference to that lack in the Suns front office. I know, I know, there just aren't that many competent seven footers to be had, but Stephen Hunter looks better and better all the time. Our bigs are wide and stocky and a bit on the old side--I hope the likes of KG and Yao aren't licking their chops.....

First, we can still rotate the 3 on the inactive list for playing in the NBDL or training with the team. It's not like that the latter wouldn't help.

Second, according to Joe Mama, we'll sign a 6'11 guy named LJ soon. ;)

Third, even during Nash's court time, we should implement set half court plays with some other people handling the ball, like Utah used to use Stockton.

Assuming Padgett doesn't sign with us, we'll need to sign 1 more guy if we want to send both Tishcer & Thompson to the NBDL. I really don't like the idea of Payton because I don't think he'll be happy in limited minutes behind Nash, but he's probably the most talented guy we could sign for the vet. minimum (or close to it).

The one more guy will be a trade later on in the season. ;) I think we have who we are going to war with, pretty much now.

What about bring back Bo Outlaw? I mean the guy can play D and is a great locker room guy. I think he would get as many minutes as anyone else we would bring in at that price/position.

I bet the Suns would love to have Bo back at a minimum deal. I would assume he would want to go somewhere he could play though.

That is a very short list for Bo.

Bo's bench seat he had for us last year has been filled by Tischer or Burke. Bo's ship has sailed with us. Bo's NBA career is like my Jeep Cherokee when gas hit's $4 dollars a gallon, running on fumes! :D

I think that they are high enough on Thompson right now that he would stay on the active roster. Tishcher on the other hand should be heading down to the NBDL.

I agree as well.

However, if Lonnie Jones is an athletic big man that can rebound, perhaps score a little and rip a few heads off, I'm for finding room on the Suns roster somewhere for him. :)

Actually, I think Joe Mama knows Lonnie Jones better than most. I've never even seen Jones play except to notice he played well in last year's summer leagues.

Is it just me or are we heavy on wings with little depth at point and center? I guess that's a reflection of the league when you're looking for athleticism though.
