Bengals interested in Boulware?
The Baltimore Sun reported LB Peter Boulware, released by the Ravens on Wednesday, might have an early suitor in the Bengals. Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis worked with Boulware for five seasons with the Ravens.

The team and Boldin's agent have discussed extensions ranging from four to six years, and the Cardinals have offered bonuses in the range of $8 million to $10 million.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the team hosted linebacker Anthony Simmons on Wedensday in an attempt to address a need at that position. The team is looking for another starter to play alongside Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. Simmons was released by the Seahawks in March in a cost-cutting move. At the current time, Hunter Hillenmeyer is the projected starter, but that could change. ... The Chicago Tribune reported the Bears have had preliminary discussions on a contract extension for CB Jerry Azumah, who's scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2005 season.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns are interested in recently released linebacker Peter Boulware, according to a source. His health is a concern to the team, however. ... As it stands now, the Browns will not pursue punitive measures against tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., who was in violation of his contract for riding a motorcycle, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Winslow, who had recently purchased the bike, got into an accident while riding it and sustained several injuries that could jeopardize his availability for the upcoming season. The team may ask for money back, but doesn't plan on releasing Winslow, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Former Packers GM Ron Wolf says quarterback Brett Favre was not out of line for comments aimed at receiver Javon Walker, who is holding out for more money. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Favre believes that Walker's absence loses points with his teammates and that this holdout will come back to haunt him. Wolf said that Favre is entitled to his opinion.

The Boston Globe reported that with slightly less than $3 million of cap space remaining, the Patriots have some money to acquire players. The newspaper said New England might flirt with the idea of trying to get contract extensions for Adam Vinatieri and Richard Seymour; they might cut a veteran or two and replace them with better value players; or if they feel a veteran linebacker such as Peter Boulware could fit nicely into their 3-4 scheme, they have the flexibility to maneuver a player like that onto the roster.
