If he was gaining ground why whould he push him out? Why not tackle him and tomahawk the ball?

No need to. When you have simply caught up to the point where you can nudge him out of bounds do it. How many times have DBs went for the ball/tackle and blew it completely? Many that I have seen.

To stop him quicker without having to set up a total catch up and tomahawk that would allow a runner to get an additional 5-10 yards.

Even if its fumbled odds are it goes right out of bounds.

That too.

Good point.

The saftey had the angle. These guys are all fast.. 4.4 vs 4.5 it doesn't matter if you have an angle on the player. That being said, JJ has the ability to get to the second level, he just needs help getting out of the first. He had a hole on that play and was able to break it outside.

It was stride for stride once they got side by side.

Looked even to me.

Most of the time you can see the guy start to pull away and if JJ was it was not noticable.

But they promptly took him out of the game.

I really think we need a team mom to tell the kids how not to piss off DG, once he hates you he hates you.

It's like a bad sitcom.

That was my question, was he tired, banged up, was green mad he didn't score, why does a guy who just rips off the longest run of your season immediately come off the field?

Just like the Seattle game when Shipp started so well and then was benched for no reason.

Funny how everyone sees a game different.I was watching the game at MadDogs with the other Card fan in Havasu when one of those many firesales happened with 5 defenders beating Josh to his setup point.Josh gets away somehow and misses a WR.The other guy says he can't hit nobody and I'm thinking how in the hell can he with the way our OL is playing. Then later he says can't he throw anything inbounds, while I'm thinking Boldin get your head out of your ass and keep your feet inbounds. We did agree it was an ugly win but ugly or not Tenn. would have loved to have our W.

Very good point.

I thought the same thing, and when you re-watch a game and try to critique Josh it's not as cut and dried as people make it.

I've tried to be objective about it and yes he was not good yesterday but honestly it happens to QB's from time to time and in the context of the game he didn't do that badly.

When Josh had time to throw against a good defense from Carolina and a bad defense from Frisco the result was a ton of yards.

When he did not have the same time to throw the result predictably was very few yards.

It's not rocket science and people act like no other QB facing that would be that bad.

I thought

on that play, Big did a good job one way at the line and Fitz did a good job on his man the other way. He got us some good yards on a play they should have gone back to, but didn't. Whether he should have broke it or not, I don't know from where I sat. If we'd of had three or four more runs on plays like that it wouldn't matter. We kept trying to go up the middle after that, well it seemed to be that way alot, and they played to plug gaps and blitz alll day.
So, after rambling on and not really answering your question, I wonder why we don't go to the outside with him a little more often.
Anyway, it was exciting to see him break one off.

Hey Russ did you see the Jets game last night? They had a TD on KO return that was called back on a penaltythat was out of the play. The reason I bring it up is because two of the Falcons defenders had huge angles on the guy and failed to catch him. He continued to pull away. JJ could learn from that :D

IMO: The defender had a good angle. JJ is plenty fast. It shows what he can do when there is a hole to run through.

IMHO on the running game: We have two problems, the OL is not talented enough to open the holes. They are plenty big, but big isn't working. Look at two of the best running attacks in the league, Denver & SD- they are the smallest lines but they are very talented and strong and get the job done.

The second problem is we do not have a blocking fullback since hodgins went down and DG likes 3 receiver sets. We have trouble running when the D has 6 men in the box, let alone 7 or 8.

Well I do know one thing for certain. If we cant properly judge a QB behind this line we certainly cant judge a RB.

Didn't see it but I will say KO returns are typically a different story because the returner often has a running start when he gets the ball and is at full speed much quicker.

Who was the returner, Justin Miller? He's very fast if it was him, he ran a 4.42 at the combine and then ran a 4.3 something at his pro day. Apparently he was nursing a leg injury that slowed him at the combine and he couldn't finish his pro day workout and that's why he dropped in the draft. One of the kids I was really hoping we might get.
