Life seems to be looking up for shy and withdrawn Stephane when he is coaxed to return to his childhood home with the promise of a job, in the mundane world of copy setting. Wildly creative, his fanciful and sometimes disturbing dream life constantly threatens to usurp his waking world. Stephane is quickly drawn to his neighbor, Stephanie whose imagination easily matches his own. As their relationship blossoms, the confidence Stephane exudes in his dreams begins bleeding over into his real life. Unable to bear the prospect of a waking world without Stephanie's love, and with no satisfying solutions coming out of his dream world, Stephane faces a dilemma he may not be able to depend on the science of sleep to help him solve.

on the run from johnny law... ain't no trip to cle
saw this today. i don't know how i missed this thread when bada posted it originally. michel gondry (director and co-writer of "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind") wrote and directed this. it is a foreign film, although about half the movie is in english.

i would say definitely go and see it. it was very funny, but very weird, like you'd expect from gondry. do not, however, go in expecting the same emotional depth as esotsm. this film is more of a comedy. really quite good!

Gondry wrote the movie alone (i.e. without the help of Charlie Kaufman) and The Science of Sleep is a lot more introspective and autobiographical than Eternal Sunshine, with a funnier and (way) weirder tone.

And as usual with Gondry, there's a lot of cheapo handmade special effects. If you found Eternal Sunshine too oniric/weird, I think you're gonna hate this one.

Just watched it. It was very weird indeed. I really enjoy watching a movie like this after watching a bunch of generic movies made for the masses. However, I would have to watch it a few times for it all to sink in.

Gondry makes some very odd movies. He has one coming out in 09 called Master of Space and Time. Sounds pretty cool.
