The Seattle Seahawks have had a rather busy offseason, and it's not even the NFL draft yet! They have signed notable names such as Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp, and DeMarcus Lawrence. However, it appears the Seahawks were busier than we thought, and signed another big name without any of us noticing!

General manager John Schneider has been widely regarded as one of the best in the league at his position for well over a decade now, but apparently he's so talented at his job that he's able to convince stars from different sports to sign with his team. According to ESPN's official Seattle Seahawks roster transaction tracker (still as of Easter morning, Sunday, April 20th, 2025) the Seahawks signed... Seattle Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh.

Seattle's received some criticism from fans for not upgrading the center (C) position during free agency. Well, looks like the Seahawks did manage to find their "C"!

Turns out Seahawks GM John Schneider is so good at his job he managed to sign Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh to a six-year deal without any of us noticing! Good catch, ESPN, it seems we missed this one! pic.twitter.com/stdsAmmQ62

While I'm sure there are some 12's who would have preferred Seattle to sign an actual center instead of a catcher, remember, the Seahawks have been known to make rather unconventional moves along their offensive line. I'd say adding a Platinum Glove-caliber player like Raleigh could very well be their greatest experiment yet! The six-year, $105 million deal given to Raleigh is a lofty investment, but I believe he represents a worthy risk to take. After all, Raleigh leads all catchers with eight home runs so far, and is tied with Mike Trout for second most in the entire MLB.

How these home runs will translate to effectively protecting Sam Darnold remains to be seen. New offensive line coach John Benton has his work cut out for him!

Alright, that's the end of this bit. It's obviously not often I get to talk about Cal Raleigh on this website, so I have to take my shot when opportunities like this present themselves. Clearly, there is a bit of a mishap on the ESPN transaction tracker, and someone mixed up the Seahawks and Mariners. Still, this was a little too fun to pass up.

Cal Raleigh is one of the most uniquely enjoyable players to root for... not just on the Mariners, but across the entire Seattle sports landscape. While the idea of him playing for the Seahawks is a quirky little thought experiment, I believe everyone who roots for either team is much happier seeing The Big Dumper in a Mariners jersey.
