rightfully so, we are looking at vet options at the QB because Skelton is not ready yet but he did show some promise...but is he a possible franchise QB in the future? That is actually almost as important knowing as getting a vet for the position.

With the cardinals? no. If Skelton was on a team that emphasized running the ball and defense, then he would have the chance to develop. However, completely different situation with the Cards; no running game, no defense, and an avg at best O-Line (which probably got worse with the loss of Faneca). Those are key components to any winning organization, and any QB would struggle to succeed without such surroundings.

He may have all the tools to be a franchise QB, but so do many other QBs where things didn't work out. I don't see what makes him more special than any other late round project QB.

Anything is possible, but I doubt he'll ever start an entire season in his career.

Nope. I do not see franchise QB when I see Skelton.

I think he can be a good qb. But he needs a balanced team. Not just pass happy.

My question is, what is a franchise QB? . Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Rivers and Ben R type only? Or just any QB who can consistently run an offense like EManning, who has led the NFL in INTs twice in the last 4 seasons, Flacco, Schaub, Ryan, etc.

I guess it would be any QB who can run your offense effectively for 5-10 years????

Yes. He has the arm strength and athletic ability to go along with great poise in the pocket. If the Cards handle him right he could be great. That is a huge if though. We all see what Whiz did with Leinart so who knows. If Skelton was with a coach like Martz he could be the next John Elway. Whiz has already shown that he's not the sharpest tool in the wood shed when it comes to developing players, especially quarterbacks. If I had one wish for Skelton it would be to have Kurt Warner as his mentor. I think the sky is the limit for him then.

To me he has all the tools, and enough time on his contract to develop into a good QB.

Going by your parameters "just what I've seen" no, maybe in the future but right now I don't have a lot of faith.

I like his composure coming from Fordham and starting in the NFL last season. I never got the feeling he was overwhelmed or rattled. Yes, he has miles to go but he has all the physical tools to get there. I think he can be the Cardinals QB of the future given the opportunity.

Skelton is extremely raw and I've only seen him play in a handful of games. It's impossible to tell what he will develop into 3-4 years down the road.

However based off the limited poll options I would say yes because anything is possible.

Bingo. Everyone needs to realize that this kid hadn't taken 1st-team or even, to my recollection, 2ND-TEAM snaps until the week before he started. For a 5th-round pick out of Fordham to be put into that situation and show flashes of promise as he did is incredible. I think he absolutely could develop, if given the chance.

I agree. I really liked how he handled himself in the pocket considering how raw he is. I think it would be hard to judge any QB from last years abysmal season. The entire offense was in complete disarray. The O-line was bad, the receivers dropping balls, and the non existent running game. I remember Whiz being impressed with Skelton's ability to communicate to the coaches what he saw and why he made his choices, which to me, is an under valued intangible. I think he has the POSSIBILITY to become a franchise QB.

Extremely Confident...

He has the poise. arm-strength,and feel for the game. I saw enough promise from him last year to believe he can do the job. Consider what he faced last year... Were we a threat to run the ball? NO! Did we pass protect well? Not really. When he had time I saw an accurately thrown pass with zing. Alot of his incompletions, at least from what I saw. were a direct result of "drops" or throwing it away. I do think he needs to develop touch on his "under" passes. Over-all, I've seen enough to say YES he can do it. Time will tell. GO CARDS! :D

He has all the physical tools you want so that is not his problem. It's between the ears and that takes time to develop. Perhaps 3 to 4 years. A true franchise QB is a guy who has all the physical tools and gets it within a shorter period of time a la Bradford, Ryan, and Rivers to name some recent few.

It's almost impossible to develop into a franchise QB. You either are or you aren't. You can usually tell very quickly. In the case of Skelton, I (IMHO) saw a solid/good QB in the making but not franchise.

Possible? Sure. Highly unlikely, but possible.

I mean, Warner was so bad out of college he didn't even stick around and was forced to go play arena ball and we all know he eventually became a franchise QB. Anything is possible.

He was thrown into the mix way too soon, so it's tough to say. Ideally, Skelton wouldn't have even seen the field for another couple of years. But right now, that 47.6 completion percentage makes it tough to think he'll ever be a franchise QB.

This post has me confused. If he shouldn't have seen the field for a couple of years then how to you hold his completion % against him?

That's like saying when Barry Sanders was 12 months old he could barely walk so he will never play in the NFL.

In other words you don't think he can singlehandedly carry a football team.
