Walmart cancels some SNES Classic Edition pre-orders due to website error
It was briefly possible to pre-order the Super NES Classic Edition at Walmart, but the company now says it jumped the gun — and customers are reporting that Walmart is canceling their orders. Pre-orders went live late Friday night, shortly after 11:30 p.m. EDT, and were available for just over half an hour before Walmart said it was out of stock (and its website crashed). The next day, however, pre-order customers began posting online to say that Walmart had canceled their orders.

I haven't received a cancellation email so I am still holding out a tiny sliver of hope. I knew it was too good to be true, lol.

Walmart confirmed today that it will in fact be canceling all of those SNES Classic preorders it accidentally accepted last week when the product page was mistakenly put live. The company is notifying preorder holders via email — some of whom are game journalists who’ve posted the note to Twitter — saying, “We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake.” Well, there you have it, folks: the SNES Classic preorder party is over, at least for now.

The Super NES Classic Finally Has a Preorder Timeframe

The Super NES Classic will finally be available to preorder in late August, says Nintendo. The company posted as much on its official Facebook page in a clarifying dispatch that should ease worries about system availability in the lead up to the $79.99 micro-console’s September 29 launch.

“We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System,” says Nintendo in the post. “[We] can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month.”

Walmart had some available today at 10am but by the time I saw the email at 1pm they were sold out. STIll pretty bitter Walmart wouldn't honor the first pre-order (aka their mistake).
