Star Chamber Remake in the Works
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
September 22, 2005

20th Century Fox, Hyde Park Entertainment and producers Matthew Baer and Frank Spotnitz are teaming on a remake of Fox's 1983 film The Star Chamber, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film marks the studios' first joint project since Hyde Park signed a five-year, first-look production and distribution deal with Fox in July.

In the original, Michael Douglas starred as an idealistic judge who, frustrated by having to let dangerous criminals go free because of legal loopholes, joins a secret society of judges bent on taking justice and punishment into their own hands.

Here's how old I am - I saw the original in the theaters. :|

Personally, I wish they'd leave it alone. Not another remake. :bang:

I have seen the Star Chamber ... it was the near the end of the "anti-government" or "we can't trust the government to do things right" phase of Hollywood where people were getting disillusioned ... it came out of the recession.

Overall, the original is well done and thought provoking on its own. Do they need to remake it? ... No ... but it is unknown enough since it came out to little applause back in 1983. It was dwarfed by other films of that year: Close Encounters, terms of Endearment, Kramer vs Kramer, etc....

If they actually accomplish the remake, then having Douglas take Holbrook's role would be a nice twist...
