Canucks Drew O'Connor Set To Make Franchise History Monday Against The San Jose Sharks

The Canucks were by far the better team on Monday night. Vancouver finished the night with a 35-15 even-strength scoring chances advantage while also winning the even-strength high-danger scoring chances battle 15-4. In the end, if not for a strong performance from Sharks' goaltender, Alexandar Georgiev, this game could have been a blowout.

As for the heatmap, it is a good representation of how unbalanced this game really was. Vancouver controlled play from start to finish and ended the night with 14 high-danger shots. Overall, it was an impressive performance from the offence, as they were able to take advantage of a tired San Jose team.

When it comes to standouts, the Canucks best line was the trio of Drew O'Connor, Teddy Blueger and Linus Karlsson. During their 9:28 of ice time, Vancouver held an 8-2 scoring-chances advantage and won the high-danger scoring-chances battle 6-0. If this trio can build some chemistry late in the season, they could enter 2025-26 as the Canucks fourth line.

To wrap things up, Kirill Kudryavtsev had an impressive first career NHL game. The left-shot defenceman played 12:15 at even-strength and was on the ice for Vancouver's only goal during regulation. Kudryavtsev also recorded his first career shot on goal and finished his NHL debut with a team-high three blocked shots.
