What would you rather have WR's with big numbers or game winning catches? They can run up all the yards and catches in the world but it doesn't mean anything if they don't get in the endzone to win the game. The Cards had what 1 or 2 TD catches in the second half of wins last year?

The game plan/ Kurt needs to get our WRs the ball in the end zone. WTF is no jump balls to Fitz when he is defended by Travis Fisher???????

Jeff did you happen to be around for last season? Im thinking McCown is a capable back up but thats about it.
I agree, but this assessment is a "snapshot in time."

McCown is young, and what we don't know is whether he is getting better while serving as understudy to Warner. Maybe. Maybe not. (As (I said in my previous post, backups are seldom seen or heard by fans). But it can't hurt to keep an open mind and at least hold open the option that Josh actually might become good enough.

Ummm... "keep playing"? What Kurt Warner are you watching? The one that I've been watching has put up a 77.4 passer rating (16th in the NFL), and is completing 63% of his passes. That sounds like the definition of "Mediocre" to me.

The luminaries that have been performing better than Warner so far this season include Drew Bledsoe, Trent Dilfer, Mark Brunell, and Brian Griese. And by "luminaries" I do mean "has beens."

At some point you should take the time to give us your Glossary of terms...

as in what precisely is:

Excellent
Very good
Good
poor or mediocre
Bad

and any other miscellaneous subordinate definitions you may have...

Just so we can keep up... :D

"Like a pinball machine," eh? Tim Rattay threw for 165 total passing yards against the Rams in week 1. His team converted 14 percent (1 of 7) of their third downs. And his dazzling completion rate of 69 percent was on all of 16 passes. I know you were exaggerating to make a point, but c'mon.

Rattay is a marginal NFL starter on his best day. Even at this point in his career, Kurt Warner is more than that.

See, that's the thing. I don't think there's all that much difference between Kurt Warner and Tim Rattay at this point. Warner's awareness is definitely better, his ability to read defenses and such. But Rattay has the fresher arm and has better speed on the ball when it comes out.

My point is that both of them are marginal NFL starters either way, and there's not a lot of evidence to suggest otherwise about either of them. Tim Rattay's 2 TDs against the Rams would still be better than Warner's best day in Cardinal Red, especially considering the no-talent WRs that he's throwing to.

Have no worries, McCown is NOT the QB of the future here. Green could draft a QB next year, and have him ready the year after. I don't know about all this 3 year time frame. One year on the bench is more then enough. Or we can just keep picking up veterans that get cut, like Denny previously did. But I truly think that Denny, is trying to fix his mistakes of the past so I think we will be going after a long term QB next year.

The way things are going we should have our pick of the QB's next year.

I think Warner can still make the throws, I am not sure if he can still make the plays. I'm not sure what Denny will do about the QB situation. I hope he can coax enough out of Warner/McCown this year and next, draft a QB in 2006 and start him in 2007. Thats a long time. If Denny doesn't see Warner/mcCown as viable next yr, he may bring in another FA and never draft a QBOF.

From "mediocre" to "marginal." Kurt Warner's stock is falling faster with you than Enron's. Heck, Josh McCown's arm is "fresher" than Warner's, but I hope you're not suggesting we start him.

Oh, well. In a few hours, we'll have 50 percent more evidence to judge the relative merits of Warner, Tim Rattay, and any other QB that we want to throw into this whirlpool of stats. And then we can reboot this debate all over again. Won't that be fun? ;)
