I just finished an environmental site assesment for a developer thinking to build way over on 350th Avenue (north of I-10).

I called him to make sure about the address - he said "yup - we expect the valley growth to be out there in 10-15 years"

I wonder if they will ever build another airport similar to Chicago's O'Hare and Midway setup. I think they will need it.

We make regular road trips to Cali and back and development is moving further and further out. Nice commute. :D

They're doing major upgrades to the Phoenix Goodyear Airport runway on Litchfield Road and Lower Buckeye.

Is there just one runway? Is that airport for private aircraft?

I am talking about another full service airport that would handle other commercial air traffic.

I'm not certain. I haven't been out there. I'm sure that it's larger than, say, Stellar Airpark in Chandler (McClintock and Chandler Blvd, which is exclusively for private aircraft.

I'd be willing to bet that Phoenix would scuttle any plans for another Sky Harbor-sized airport or larger, like they did with the Rio Salado stadium location. That's a cash cow for them. I wonder if they'd let Sky Harbor be a "national" airport for the Valley, and then use the Goodyear and Williams Gateway facilityies as "regional" airports for flights to Colorado, Vegas, Texas, L.A., etc.

Williams Gateway Airport (I think that is what it is called!) - has multiple long runways (long enough for 747's); a commercial terminal has already been built. Some cargo and passenger flights have already begun.

As far a Phoenix Sky Harbor not allowing competition, there really is little they can do to stop it; although they have and will continue trying. Sky Harbor is land-locked, it has already nearly maximized it's capacity (i.e. - landings and takeoffs).

With continued growth of the Phoenix metro area, in all directions, the development of an additional "national" airport is inevitable.

Actually I wasn't going to use an f-bomb, I have enough respect for you guys not to do that. I don't think you understood post as it's intent was not to badmouth the East Valley. I recently moved back to the East Valley (Scottsdale) and my point was that people who live out here complaining about the length of a freeway drive to Glendale is ridiculous. Myself and many others on this board and at games have driven from places such as Tucson or Flagstaff on Sundays, so Mesa/Scottsdale shouldn't be a big deal. The last thing I was trying to do was start up some east/west rivavlry. I've lived in and enjoyed both. Let's save the east/west rivalry for rappers.

I really don't care where they put the stadium cause if you're die hard you will still go to the games no matter where it is. I lived in Glendale and I travel with my fiancee for a 30 minute drive to the game and we don't care since we both enjoy going to the game and my fiancee is as die hard as I am. Just to let everbody know when the new stadium opens my drive to it will only be a 10 min drive. lol :D

I'm a west-sider who grew up in the East Valley. All my relatives still live in Mesa/Chandler/Gilbert. To hear them talk, they think there's nothing out here but alfalfa fields.

On a Sunday, the drive from my place in Avondale to SDS is just over 35 mins. In case you haven't noticed, the average speed on I-10 is 75-85. But once I get there, I have to park and walk, and walk, and walk to get to the stadium. (I grab a $3 spot off Lemon/Stadium) . With the MPF, you'll just park, walk (something far less than .5 mile), and you're there.

I challenge those worried about the commute to time their travel time from their front door to their seat at SDS. Then come out to a Coyotes game sometime.

It will take a winning team to draw the naysayers over from the East Valley, but once they start coming, they'll realize the MPF is much closer to home than they thought.

The sports bar is located about 2 miles away from the stadium.

Its right across the street. A block maybe. Right behind Fox and Hound.
