What i find funny besides your usual big school bias is the fact that many draft people like Fisher and his skills and his potential.Si its obvious that the kid has talent and many think pretty highly of his talent. While he doesn`t have the pedigree of playing at that pillar of integrity called Ohio State most won`t hold that against him.
Level of competition has to be a factor, in any sport. Why do you think guys that can't cut it a bigger school often transfer to smaller schools for playing time? I'm not biased, it's reality. I also questioned Taylor Lewan because he played against a very weak Big 10 this year. When he faced Bama, he was beaten constantly. When he face #79 from Iowa, he was dominant.

Here's a perfect example showing how level of competition can be a big factor contributing to one's success.

According to most draft sites Fisher has the skills and the size and he will benefit from a nfl strehgth program.

Fisher is a very good LT prospect...but he in nowhere near Top 10 draft worthy. He's got the frame, athleticism, work ethic and technique to be a very good LT.

The question is---can he step in and be an effective starter as a rookie?

Not so sure of that.

Look at Riley Reiff---who was projected as a 10 ten pick last year by several pundits. He slid to #23 (Lions) and then he was unable to supplant Jeff Backus as the starting LT, but did eventually make his way into the lineup and played solidly.

Reiff, imo, was more NFL ready than Fisher.

Fisher is a late first, early second round prospect.

A tackle needy team may reach for him, but it won't be the Cardinals.

You can say that about every lotto pick.

Besides the #1 LT taken, every other LT will face an uphill battle. Rarely is #1 and #2 close. And yet this year it looks like Fisher is really pushing Joeckle.

IMO, I think Fisher can be a day 1 starting LT. Does that mean he will be a day 1 pro bowler? Of course not. But if Massie isnt the perfect example of growth through experience, then I dont know what is.

The Massey comparison is a reach...the NFL assimilation and transition to LT is much more difficult.

Each case is unique. Plus - would a Potter comparison be more relevent?

Not really. Massie is a unique case because he was always projected as a RT.

And I have to agree with Mitch on the RT/LT comparison because we've had two first round Tackles who were much better at RT than they were as Left Tackles this decade.

No its even.

Because Fisher is coming in a much better talent then Massie was. Yes LT is more difficult, but Fisher is more talented than Massie/ Potter/ Levi.

And someone needs to do the job. What are we going to wait another 3-5 years for our LT? Maybe the year off has made everyone forget that LEvi is no Megamo at LT. Hes OK. But he gives up his fair shares of sacks.

Will Fisher do the same? to begin with, yes. But eventually he will grow. His ceiling is much higer, and his floor is higher to begin with.

Thats the difference.

It might all be irrelevant because I just participated in a straight 2 round mock where 3 of the 1st 5 picks were OL. In that scenario the Cards didnt even get a shot at Joeckel, Fisher, or Warmack. What may have ended up even better, yet unlikely, was Cards first 2 picks were:

Rnd 1. Jarvis Jones, OLB
Rnd 2. Jonathan Cooper, OG

This would be a dream scenario if we didn't address the OL with our first pick and Cooper really feel to us in the 2nd.

I would take that for sure.

Problem is Cooper wont make it that far.
