The first thing I do every morning is check the standings," McDonough said. "And somehow were still [4½ games] out with a half a season to go. So we’re not waving the white flag. The main decision for us over the next five weeks between now and the trade deadline is, which way do we want to go? We’re still weighing both sides. Do we want to try to add and make a run at the playoffs? Or do we want to look longer term and maybe add a few more young guys to build with our young core?

This was before or after the Boston loss.

Stop shoving this BS down the fans throats. Nobody wants to hear that. It is time this organization finally faces reality and stops trying to fool the last remaining fans.

Pretty sure the vast majority of the fans is all for developing the young guys instead of this conbuilding non-sense as well as selling false hope to the fans.

Yeah, that's delusional. The Suns have lost 13 of 14 and are 6-24 over their last 30 games. The idea that they could make the playoffs is just plain silly.

Agree. Get a real coach and let him run the team. Give him a better squad, i.e. cut Quief and sign a real PG and a real PF. Get rid of either or both of Knight and Bledsoe. Hope we get lucky in the lottery.

That's unbelievable.

I can not decide that this stupid dreaming is made by McD on his own or it is just the loyalty that he shows by repeating the same stuff that Sarver says.

Right now the Suns are easily the worst team in the NBA. Even the Sixers (after acquiring Ish Smith) looks a tougher, better executing team.

Milwaukee, Denver, even Minnesota are on another level.

If McDonough and company (one above and one below) possessed the basketball common sense to know that, the Suns wouldn't have evolved into what they have become. It is what it is.

Just another example of why we are a team without a plan. Well, maybe at the end of the 2015-16 training camp which has been ongoing all season long.

Nah, they'll probably add a 3rd starting tweener Point Guard again.

Here is a quote from two days ago in the Az Republic -- View From Press Row.

Suns center Tyson Chandler became the second-best player in NBA history for field-goal percentage (minimum 2.000 field goals) with a steady diet of dunks over 15 seasons.

A LARGE CHUNK OF THOSE USUALLY COME OFF ALLEY-OOPS BUT IT IS LATE JANUARY AND THE SUNS' ALLEY-OOP ATTEMPTS LOOK STRAIGHT OUT OF TRAINING CAMP. TIMING, ANTICIPATION AND ACCURACY ARE ALL LACKING.
(My upper case.)

No different than before Bledsoe went down with his injury. The Suns powers-that-be don't even have the foresight to sign players who would fit in or get players to make someone like Chandler fit in.

The second-best player in NBA history for field-goal percentage over 15 seasons . . . until joining the Suns.

It is pathetic. But, hey, we're only 4 1/2 games away from making a playoff appearance.

I just lost a lot of respect for Ryan McDonough after reading that. And I think almost all Suns fans probably feel the same way.

That's a quote I would expect from someone like David Kahn or Billy King or Lance Blanks but McD? Wow.

What do you want him to say, we plan to tank to get better picks in next years draft. If he did that, no one would go to the games. He would be stupid to say that. Either way, get the young guys out there and play. If they win games, great, if the lose, great.

He could say

"We are excited about the progress of Devin Booker and watching the young guys developing. blabla"

Instead of assuming fans are stupid.

Seems like a mouthpiece for Sarver. I'm pretty sure McD knows that this team isn't going anywhere and would rather cut the fat, develop the young guys, and analyze the **** out of the draft.

The moves they make in the next 30 days will tell the true story.

News flash: Most fans ARE stupid.

According to the listed attendance of last nights game 16802, there was almost a full house of stupid people. Only fan apathy and a lack of attendance will force Saver to make changes during the season. Bankers hate to lose money.

No. We need the fans in the arena. Sarver will always make more money with wins, even if the attendance is good. He will sell more merchandise, get playoff revenue, and his equity in the team will grow.

What I don't want to do is give him an excuse to move the team.

Phoenix is the 6th biggest city in the US, one of the largest metro areas, tv market and radio market...

Sarver could not find a better market. He would only move if the city makes him by blocking a new arena eventually.

+1

I don't expect him to say anything else. This team seems like it's always in full PR mode though. This is the Suns whose main message to the fans for years has included the word "fun". Not shocked by this statement.

I don't care what they say...I care what they do and this franchise seems like it's stuck in gear and going nowhere fast.

Thats makes zero sense. Right now the Suns are playing as a last place NBA team. That makes them a bad product. Why would anybody pay for a bad product? Force Saver into making changes by producing a much better product for the public to support and buy.

Sarvers solution could be Seattle.

I could see Sarver selling the franchise to new ownership with a plan to relocate. But that's the only way the Suns would move IMO and even then it would be a hard sell to the league.

Hard sell? More like an impossible sell. Especially with how much Jerry Colangelo's influence has skyrocketed in the past 10 years around the league--he would lead any kind of debate to keep the Suns in Phoenix.

I have no idea what Jerry would do. Would he fight against the sale and relocation in support of the Valley? Or would he fight against it just to get back at Sarver? Or maybe he'd he stand aside with the hopes of heading up a new ownership group that brought an expansion franchise back to Phoenix? That sounds a little petty and I think better of Jerry than that but who knows?

I expect there will be expansion again in the next decade or so unless they just relocate a couple of the smaller market franchises. Seattle and South Orange County for example have the base and both areas have a lot of money. And in the case of OC, positioned properly it might be able to draw not just from Orange County but also San Diego and the west side of Riverside County. I doubt it will be the Suns but someone probably ends up there.

Who would've ever dreamed that the NBA would leave Seattle. They had crazy rabid fans.

Yes, maybe the chances are low, but an empty arena makes it more possible. BTW. I think Sarver IS trying to win. I think that is his problem. He is unwilling to accept losses for the longer term benefit.

Maybe until now.
