There hasn't been one piece of actual news about Manning all week.

For the past week we've been bombarded with Manning "news" that ranges from speculation to quotes from unnamed sources to pure bullcrap. No words from Manning, his agent, or anyone in his camp. The only real, accurate news is that he visited Tennessee. Everything else is someone's stupid hunch or some theory they're trying to spin. Peyton must prefer Denver because he likes John Elway. Peyton must prefer Miami because it's warm. Peyton must prefer Arizona because of Larry Fitzgerald. Peyton once took a really satisfying dump in Nashville so he's gonna sign with Tennessee. Peyton's second cousin Cooter lives in Utah so they're going to relocate a team to Salt Lake City for him.

It's a waste of time to react to any of this nonsense. This guy isn't a low-class media ***** like Favre. There aren't going to be any leaks of relevant information. Just sit back and wait for him to make his decision. Until then, it's just bored reporters/bloggers and "unnamed sources" talking out of their cornholes.

I was reflecting on that fact last night

other than PM meeting with teams -- there hasnt been a peep of official news.

Also -- not a word from any of the folks Manning met with -- Elway, Fox, Whis, Graves, Mike B, Philbin, Munchak ( except Bud Adams who gave a quote about offering Peyton a lifetime contract)

That tells me he wants radio silence.

Jurecki noted that usually these things are done with agent in tow -- but apparently Condon is in the dark as well. Cooper Manning is handling the logistics of all this for his brother.

On one hand -- its been discouraging to hear the media "consensus" over the last few days seems to have put the Cardinals out of it based on the AFC vs NFC thing -- but I am not sure if that criteria is a PM criteria, or one that has legs because Bill Polian said it and it has been endlessly repeated.

Remember, not one of these top-notch, 24-hour-a-day NFL insiders, close sources, etc., had correct knowledge of the day Manning was going to be released.

I totally agree with you, i don't put anything in all that information that is
out there. 4 teams are in this, that is the news so far, but there are no real news more than that.

The unnamed sources etc, that is just thoughts rather than evidence. However, it's still interesting. It's guessing, but there is nothing else to do.

I think it comes down to control. That's my guess. Which team and offense will he be able to control the most, which coordinator will let him control the offense the most. He can only fit best in one scheme, he knows that, and he wants to be sure he signs for the team that builds the offense like he wants it.
He wants to control the game from the LOS, he won't let any coordinator mess that up, that is why he is so good as he is. He is the best signal caller the game has ever seen.

I'm sure all of the teams involved in this would prefer that he just make up his mind. The sooner a team finds out he isn't going there, the sooner they can move to plan B.
Hopefully the Cards will know what there standing is before they have to make a decision on Kolb.
For a player known for his decisiveness, he sure isn't showing it here.

The one thing encouraging to me is we are the only NFC team he spoke with. Of course that could be discouraging I suppose.....

There has been lots of news. I mean we know he brought a big bag with him to the Cards Facility that may or not have been filled with his own footballs, he was wearing a Vols Orange shirt when he visited the Titans. He was seen drinking an "Arizona Iced Tea" when he got off of the Titans Plane.

That is a lot of actual news.:D

This pretty much confirms that this will be a football only decision, and not at all about money. When Peyton chooses his team, he will instruct Condon to work with a certain set of parameters and get a fair deal done.

We won't know jack until that Kolb deadline is about 5 minutes away, Peyton is exhausting every possible angle, sorta like he does when he is playing QB. When we are in limbo, might as well just grab a beer, put some music on, and do the limbo mon.

That bag may or may not have been filled with Tom Condon. Not sure why the media keeps reporting that his agent hasn't been accompanying him on these visits. :)

True. Longest most painful week ever. Hope we get him, if not I hope Kolb shows up with a chip on his shoulder ready to prove he can be our qbof

Actual News:

Peyton Manning visits Denver - 6 hours at facility
Peyton Manning visits AZ - 6.5 hours at facility (Fitz and Roberts are there)
Peyton Manning speaks with Miami brass in Indy - 6 hours
Peyton Manning visits TEN - 6.5 hours and team doctor showed up for 90 minutes

These were football meetings.

Bud Adams offered him a "contract for life"

That is all. The rest is pretty much speculation.

It is interesting to see how the so-called insiders have reacted when they were plunged into the dark with the rest of us mortals.

Long week fo sheezy, but we've done the normal routine. Bashed and stuck up for the owners, talked some of the regular QBs (Warner Leinart), always some Smel highlites, but I keep the smile going because everyday we aint out of it means that we aint out of it. I think we are the first "deadline" Peyton has. We got **** on the grill, folks showing up, and we need to know what's it gonna be so Kolb doesn't get another concussion sweating the Manning craze. I be smiling. :)

Believe me, there'll be a host of them saying: "As I said yesterday...."

Nice recap. This the only factual news of the entire week, yet sports stations and the NFL Network insist on dedicating hours to speculation.

They gotta sell themselves. I honestly don't know why it bothers people so much, it's not like this is new (ESPN started all this way back in the day with 24 hour sports, when really there wasn't anything to talk about but speculation). It's not new.

Are they supposed to get on air and say, "Peyton Manning visited AZ. Then he left AZ. That's all we know. On to other news. Peyton Hillis signed with the Chiefs, contract details forthcoming. That's all our Peyton news for today, join us tomorrow, same time, same channel."

Over half their programming, way over half, is speculation, opinion, and analysis. If all they did was cover facts it wouldn't be 24 hours of show, it would be 30 minutes each day.

There was some other news:

It was reported on Friday morning that he was planning the Denver-Arizona Weekend.

And I believe Monday they said Peyton was going to visit Miami and Tennessee on Tuesday -Wednesday. (Though on Sunday, it was thought that Miami was questionable)

So there were a few things in advance of them actually happening.

The can provide commentary and analysis. But they cite anonymous sources with definitive conclusions. And one idiot analyst takes that speculation and repeats it as gospel without citing the originator. Makes it hard to run down the truth and is ethically shady at best.

I had not watched espn in years...turned it on for a while today.....to find all women sports anchors...some chick running the first show...who obviously knew dick and squat about football....then the next show had some chubby ass ***** paired with this buck toothed horse faced blonde bimbo.....

WTF is American sports coming to?/ I know it was 2pm and all...limited market,..gotta be fair, all that lefty hippy feel good crap............but should not an individual reporting on football have some knowledge of the sport other than what city the team is in?....and chubby ***** chick kept giving the hairy eyeball to the camera. wtf is that?? tryin to setup a trademark or something?

I will try them again in a couple more years I guess...well,...except for draft day...they still got the draft right?
