To be fair:

Rolle is probably an undersized strong safety who had to play the free safety spot because of Adrian Wilson.

Rolle is at his best within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage with the play in front of him.

Ask him to play in deep space, or cover a receiver with his back to the Qb and its ugly.

New York may have signed the most expensive nickel back in history

Good point. Most of Rolle's great plays were in the nickle pkg. where he did excel. Most of Rolle's poor play was in standard sets or in blitz pkg.'s where he had to cover in space.

You can live w/ a CB that is great cover guy but can't tackle (Dieon), but safety's have to be able to tackle well. Rolle is far from a good tackler & often takes very poor angles.

When AW blitzed, opposing teams had no fear going over the middle. They will now w/ Rhodes. That's a big change in the chemistry of our team.

Way too much money. Does he have intangibles, yep. Can he throw the ball, yep. Can he be a return man, yep. Can he take the ball back after interceptions, yep.

But when he's not doing that he's blowing coverages and missing tackles. Oh yeah, and hopefully he doesn't test positive during that contract and need to sit out a year. Those U players really like their blow. I've noticed at least two that are now gone. Might not be so unplanned.

All the big plays I can remember Rolle making were either in the nickel or on special teams. He's going to have to step up his game big time to justify what NY is (over)paying him.

Check my OLD mans memory. Was'nt it Rolle who made the game ending interception in New York this past season as we BEAT the giants for only their second loss of the season after they just lost to the Saints in Nawlins? I'm quite sure it was.

We torched their beat up and weakest part of their team at the safety position. Both in running the ball and throwing it that Sunday Night game when the World saw the then NFC Champion CARDINALS beat an old division rival and get revenge from the game a year earlier at UOP where they won field position and played on a short field all game.

Our special teams with the Howler really kept their speedster returnman bottled up all game.Eli was kept off his game all night by the gameplan Coach Davis ran as A-Dub played near the Line of scrimmage all night.Manning had at least 3 delay of game penalties. It was an awesome turn the corner game for the Franchise as Coughlin must only remember Rolle catching the game ending interception near the sidelines.

Any safety is an improvement for the pitifull giants team.No wonder they overpaid so much. The horrors they saw last year will not be erased soon from their memories from all passing teams. This was the thinnest free agent market I've seen in forever and that played the biggest part in Antron recieving his biggest and last payday on a defense that lost its great coordinator to head coach of the Rams and they never got going after we and the Saints beat them.

The giants signed the most big name defensive free agents in the league last year and injuries to those out of shape overpaid players early on showed nothing on the field till very near the end of the season and only against thier own division. The giants are still a starting MLB stud leader as they are hoping to get McClain from Bama in the draft.

Both Dansby & Rolle had some slight animosity towards graves for reasons I'm specifically aware of in both of their different cases and this years shortage of bigtime players in Free Agency but a recent SB teams players. They both got VERY lucky as things just worked out perfect for them. The Giants and Phins were MORE than DESPERATE for help at both specifically at the safety and MLB positions.

Watch coach WHIZ turn lemons into LEMONADE with a splash. To our benefit and not a blown up salary cap.

You lost me on the return man part. Rolle scared me to death when we tried him returning punts. No way he has that mastered yet.

Some people said the same things about Calvin Pace going to NY. But here is a recent quote from Calvin:

TR: Is there anything that you would like to tell all of the Jets fans out there?

CP: Thanks for supporting us and being the best fans in the world.

Doesn't look like he's having any problems in NY because of his big contract.

But Rolle plays for the Giants now. So I could care less how he performs.

The Sunday NY Times had this to say about the Cardinals losing Rolle (to the NY Giants) and getting Rhodes (from the NY Jets):

Rhodes (6 feet 3 inches, 209 pounds) is bigger than Rolle (6 feet, 202) but he is not a good tackler and struggles in coverage. Rolle went to the Pro Bowl last season....

Which makes it sound like the Cards gave up a Rolls Royce and replaced it with a used Kia.

Rolle's a good tackler?

He's decent. He can make some good tackles, or whiff five times in a row.

I think we gave up a toyota for a honda. The toyota has problems, the honda not as much. But they paid rolls royce money for a toyota, we paid kia prices for a honda. It should be, advantage cards.

Pace hasn't been a bust. He hasn't been great, but he's made a couple of johnny on the spot plays that has elevated him a bit and relaxed the fans about his contract...but the dividends of those plays aren't long lived.

I still expect pace to come back down to reality, but even then, he'll be fairly solid....just not worth his money. When this happens, he'll get ripped.

But hey, sometimes big money players scrape by without incident. Perhaps pace will be one. The odds were against him, and I still say the odds are against him, but you never know.

For Rolle, the odds are even more against him. He's on the Giants not the Jets, which is like saying he's on the Cubs and they get more scrutiny than the Whitesox which the jets and pace would be. They do, rolle will. Maybe like Pace he escapes it. But I don't think he will. If he ever gets hit with a drug suspension, that will ruin everything for him. (or any NFL player so he better not screw up or get caught)

In the end I still firmly believe the odds are high that Pace and Rolle will have rough spots for not living up to their contract, with Rolle the highest of odds it'll occur.

I wish Rolle the best, and I think in the end Rolle got paid, and we got a better player for less cap space. So we both won.
