Hold onto the ball, Murray!
Soccernet is reporting this! Wow! Thanks for taking him out of the Premiership!
I have a feeling Arsenal won't have a problem signing a replacement...or simply giving another team an offer they can't refuse for the player they want.
Thierry Henry on Barcelona with Ronaldinho should be fun to watch.
PS: Henry is over the hill. Lets see how many good years they can get out of him.
I bet Henry has 3 good seasons left in him--he's only 31 right? Of course I thought Shevchenko had more left in his tank when he joined Chelsea and look how that turned out.
Now I really wish I could watch some real soccer, but they don't have it on basic cable.... Ronaldinho + Henry is an amazing duo. And the rest of the team is great too.
Man, I know the feeling of having to sign a bunch of strikers. Last season, my Newcastle had Obafemi Martins and...and...uh, Sibieski? At least now we have Viduka, Owen, Martins, and Ameobi.
Two good players with the potential to become better (Van Persie is already pretty good but Adebayor needs to find where his feet are sometimes). They had them last year though and clearly struggled when Henry was out. They needed a striker even with the team they had last year, now they will need an out and out goalscorer of another couple of young talents. I would prefer them to go after a real poacher. The will replace him with what they have on the team. Van Persie is an excellent player and Adebayor will soon be a world class player.
Owen won't be playing for Newcastle this season, IMO.
They had them last year though and clearly struggled when Henry was out.
It was clear that Arsenal were missing something when Henry wasn't playing. Even in games when Van Persie was fit. Van Persie is one of my favourite Premiership players but Arsenal need the type of stroker that will mop up the balls bouncing around the six yard box. Van Persie is more of a Henry type player, better running with or onto the ball.IIRC, van Persie went down for the season around the same time as Henry (around January). I don't think there was a marked difference in results between last season and the prior season (when Henry was healthy). They didn't falter until more players like Rosicky and Gallas went down.
Barcelona also signed Yaya Toure from Monaco yesterday who is one of the best young players in Europe. Man, they are going to be loaded this season.
Barca will lose Saviola and Ezquerro, but Giuly and Gudjohnsen have both said they want to stay. Those are some amazing reserve players to have. If they stay, Barcelona will have the deepest team in Europe, IMO.
The Blaugrana should be the favorites to win La Liga and the Champions League this year just with the moves they've made this week and I doubt they are done adding to the squad.
I read somewhere that Gudjohnsen said he might want to go back to his old Premiership outfit.
Anyone following Bayern (besides me)?
They just signed Miroslav Klose for 12M€.
Before they signed Luca Toni for 12M€, Ribery for 25M€, Jansen for 8M€, Jose Sosa for 9M€, Hamit Alintop for free, Ze Roberto for free, Jan Schlaudraff for 1M€.
