I was getting my old car washed yesterday to give to my little brother so I was reading the predraft SI while waiting. They had a per team article about how tough it is to draft QB's and they rated each team in the NFL based on the strength of their current QB position. To my utter shock, they rated the Denver Broncos #2 as in they have the 2nd most stable QB situation in the NFL!
I don't think Woody Paige even wrote the article (-: I was literally laughing, they said Jake, Beuerlein(who may not even play this year it's not set in stone), and Jarius Jackson were the best QB group other than Philly with McNabb, Feeley and Detmer.
They also said Bouman will be a pro bowl Qb someday and Delhomme will shock people with how good he is.
It was interesting one of the guys they had talking about QB's was Coryell and he was just raving about Leftwich and how big he is and how strong his arm is. He was quite impressed with the footwork and coaching of Palmer, didn't seem all that impressed with Grossman. The opinions on Simms were pretty interesting, Coryell said his arm isn't nearly as strong as you would expect it to be given his size, that he doesn't look people off, his footwork is bad so he's often not set to throw, and he repeatedly misses targets. He basically said "every throw is off, left or right, short or long, high or low his receivers have to adjust for every throw." What made it intriguing is they said Coryell had never seen any of the QB's before, apparently he no longer follows college football so he was watching tapes(highlights and lowlights) of players he'd never seen before with no preconceptions at all.
Based on that I'm convinced Simms will be a total NFL bust, Palmer will be good, Leftwich will be a star, and Grossman needs to really learn decision making or he'll be another Jake. They said on one throw he had 4 defenders from Miami and still forced the ball, which was returned 97 yards for a score. Coryell said you just can't make that throw, you can't tolerate that in the NFL, I couldn't help but think Jake when he said it that play(I remember the miami play) was vintage trying to make a play when none is there.
