1. Will people finally give up their unfounded hope that Levi Brown will ever become even an average OT.

2. I had this thought in the back of my head and everyone one else should have felt it as well. You do not come out and win game 1 by treating preseason like its a vacation, and without a doubt that is what we did, screw that "we didnt game plan" crap, the problem was we didnt even try. This team thinks they can flip a switch any time they want to, guess what fella's that isnt how the NFL works, so get over yourselves. Horrible attitude.

3. Why are penalties still an issue, I will tell you why, attitude, see #2. Wilson with another offsides penalty and another stupid helmet to helmet hit. How hard is it for a football player to just tackle the guy, a huge kidney shot is just as good. Its why they have to make these special head blow rules, back in the day players actually knew how to tackle instead of today's players who know how to forearm a guy.

4. Wiz made a horrid mistake in trying to call plays again and not bring in a legit playcaller. He is the head coach he needs to be the head coach. I still love the guy but it has to be said, his ego got in the way of that decision without a doubt.

5. I can easily see us 0-3 going into the bye week. Besides one playoff game last year playing against a horrid QB we still haven't proven we can win on the road, especially on the east coast. And Indy doesn't make stupid mistakes.

6. Now we get to hear the rest of the week from the coaches and players, "its just game 1, glad it happened early so we can fix it" and my all time favorite, "this was a good lesson for us". Their bravado, excuses, and tired sayings make me want to puke.

Joe, I agree and want to add:

As good as the defense was, it couldn't hold the lead again!!! I still say our defense will be torched thru the air against the better offenses in this league.

Great points, Joe.

I tried the whole pre-season to reason with the board about the lack of effort this pre-season. Meanwhile in SF they were taking their tasks seriously. It showed today. They prevailed. And they owned the 4th quarter where they were tougher, better prepared and in much better shape.

Perhaps the key play of the game was not even a play. It was Mike Singletary's 3rd quarter timeout and calling the defense over, when the momentum of the game had clearly shifted to the Cardinals.

The next play, off the freaking TO, Warner gets called for a delay of game. These two events in the game were symbolic of the difference between winners and losers.

I still think we'll win next week because we'll be more healthy and the Jags suck, but this team really might have had the perfect storm last year as far as success goes.

Yes, Levi stinks, but he was rated highly by every team- it's not like we drafted someone who wasn't supposed to be a high pick. Remedy- Sign Levi Jones.

Lance Long sucks and I suspect his days on this team are numbered.

If the penalties don't stop we'll be lucky to finish the season 4-12.

Agree on the penalties. These are veterans making mistakes at key times. I will say I didn't have a good feeling about this game. I had hopes for an improved Levi but he really couldn't have played worse. Something wrong with Warner in my opinion.

Whiz screwed up not hiring an OC.

This Singletary crap is ridiculous. We handed them this game. We were horrible and still almost won. Sorry, we took the lead after his timeout speech. We had a first down at the niner 38 with a chance to win and we took 2 penalties in a row. We were horrible.

IMO, Singletary prevented a TD there. His guys were reeling and he knew how to piece them back together.

It was a key series. The Cardinals did not score again after that.

Whiz seems to have too much faith in our team leaders (an aging QB and and an undisciplined defense) whereas Singletary is still the team leader.

We did hand them the win though. 11 penalties, 2 turnovers will do that. I'm more worried about the Hawks than the Niners.

Give the Niners some credit, they were not going to let #11 beat them. Shaun Hill may suck but he led them the length of the field to beat our ass when he needed too.

And it had nothing to do with Singletary. We had chances and blew them. Plain and simple.

I feel like we beat ourselves out there, and I find that most disappointing of all. We weren't far from winning the game on the scoreboard, despite some of the horrors on the field.
Agree with Mr Dibbs, the Seahawks looked very fluid in torching the Rams.

A very poor performance to start the season. I just can't figure this team out. No desire to win and more mistakes than a Pop Warner team.

I know we are all emotional right now, PJ. But, not only did Singletary earn this win, which makes it 6 of his last 8...it would have been 7 of the last 8 had not Mike Martz made that bonehead call on the goalline at UofP in a game that quite frankly the Niners deserved to win and should have won.

His team today played tough and they did not incur the penalties the Cardinals did. Give the guy credit. Just sayin'.

How many teams would we have beaten with the penalties and turnovers we had today? Not to mention the poor performance by Warner. You might want to check but I believe we finished the season pretty well last year also. We gave them this game. Just sayin.

The good:
- Defense play extremely well as a whole
- Pass rush produced 3 sacks and held running game in check

The bad:
- Warner's play overall (had some moments but too many mistakes)

The ugly:
- Penalties killed us
- OL (Brown especially) couldn't open lanes for RB's and let guys get to Warner

I am on the sign Levi Jones bandwagon but how rusty is he after not playing in the preseason, can't be game ready yet but bring him in and gradually work him into the starting lineup.

Very good call. Our defense with the exception of one play was outstanding. Especially the two guys that have been called out on numerous posts here on ASFN, Dansby and Dockett.

The problem is the offensive line. They simply cannot block anybody. They couldn't block anybody last year or the year before. Russ Grimm should be fired tomorrow. We need a real offensive line coach.

That's the rub. Shaun FREAKING Hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C'mon. You gave him a free ride on the drive that mattered. You couldn't get to him. Pressure him like they pressured Warner!!!!!!!!!! Good Grief!!!!!!!!!

Better Offenses to come.

The offensive line play was God-awful, but I believe in giving credit where credit is due and say Manny Lawson and Justin Smith are great players, and they simply outplayed less talented players on the offensive line.

I wonder if Whis needs to go back to the full pads practices that he went to after the New England loss last year? The team got the message when he did it then. Maybe it will work again?

Average? What's so tough about saying he's average? He did contribute to the team that came very close to winning it all last season. But, has he lived up to his draft billing? Of course not... He plays like a 5th rounder at best.

Totally, entirely AGREE! The attitude is so bad that it makes me wonder just how great the Great Whiz really is... I mean, what gives this team the right to play as they did in preseason, and then come out in the first regular season game as if they simply needed to show up to earn the W?? Pathetic and Whiz can NOT be excused...

3. Why are penalties still an issue, I will tell you why, attitude, see #2. Wilson with another offsides penalty and another stupid helmet to helmet hit. Don't mean to make this a Whiz bashing, however, we led the league in penalties under Denny and Denny caught major crap as a result. Well, where has Whiz improved in this category?? :bang:

4. Wiz made a horrid mistake in trying to call plays again and not bring in a legit playcaller. He is the head coach he needs to be the head coach. I still love the guy but it has to be said, his ego got in the way of that decision without a doubt.

Donald starting seperate thread just on this topic. I actually started a poll in the preseason that offered this topic up as a key threat to our success... This is a HUGE mistake that has already set the offense back and will continue to hamper the offense throughout the season...

5. I can easily see us 0-3 going into the bye week. Besides one playoff game last year playing against a horrid QB we still haven't proven we can win on the road, especially on the east coast. And Indy doesn't make stupid mistakes.

We could easily lose by a large margin to Jax than Indy... This could be seriously ugly...

Bottom line, our Front 7 played their butts off. If not for them, this game would have no doubt been a huge blow-out. Yes, a huge blow-out to a team with Sean Hill as their QB.
Every other facet of this team, Secondary, entire offense and Coaching - all SUCKED... I won't listen to the tired rhetoric... This team is on the fringe of becoming who EVERYONE outside of Phoenix thought they were... good lord... :bang:

The thing is yeah the four losses were in the preseason an don't count but the laisse faire play of the 1st string offense gave a good indication of what was going to happen today. What really irritated me is how it was documented that after the first loss, instead of practicing the team went to the movies as a team building type deal, that's bull crap. This team and coaching staff are acting like they won the title, the Cowher and Parcells type coaches would not have allowed that. Even PIT's coaches poked fun at the Cardinals by tricking their players into thinking practice was cancelled for a trip to the movies only to have a full pad practice instead, players didn't find it amusing but they still practiced hard. At least Tomlin gots his priorities in order, win first.

Once again, no mention of Warner.

Keep ignoring the eight hundred pound elephant in the room.
