This is the most agonizing "final string" I have had in years.

Just knowing that the clown azz Skins may make the playoffs is a damn joke. I know we are all experts in the "Cardinal math" and whatnot and have been experts at doing the formulas in the past, but I really am dissapointed this year knowing that we are 2 49er wins away from making post season plans. In past years, yes we may have been in the mix, but we all knew the odds were long we'd secure a berth. Not so this year. Cards in the cat bird seat as late as it was in the season?? Unheard of! Which makes it that much painful. I've always been content to watch out the string as we can never get crazy until free agency and the draft, but watching one of those dog squads between NO, Min and Wash take what should have been ours hurts. I don't know whether to hug Whis or smack that black hat off of his head. Just drunk and venting gang. Sorry.

Difference: Washington has really turned it up the last few weeks and kicked the crap out of their opponents. A decisive win in Minnesota on Sunday night and last Sunday night against the New York Giants.

Do you think the Cards could really do this? That's the difference. This Cards team will strill struggle to beat crappy teams like Atlanta last week and St. Louis this week.

The Cardinals still need to get better. They are on the right track, but not playoff worthy yet.

We can agonize over it all we want, but it won't change the fact that the Cardinals did it to themselves. Saying "we're 3 plays away from the playoffs" doesn't help any. The fact of the matter is, the difference between good teams and bad teams is that the good teams make the 3 plays needed to get into the playoffs.

This year showed us that we are heading the right direction, which was really all I wanted to see from Whiz in year 1. It shows we're close, but still have work to do to become one of the teams that makes those plays when they are needed. I'm also hoping either the Vikings or the Saints get the last spot, the Redskins have Clinton Portis who I despise. Yes, it sucks now, but I have no doubt that next year the only difference will be we'll be watching these 8-8 or 9-7 teams fight it out knowing we're already in from winning the NFC West.

You can't lose three games like the 2 49ers games and the Carolina game and make the playoffs. You just can't. The Skins don't have three atrocious choke jobs like that in their record (they do have 1). We made our own bed, and have to live with the fact the Skins, Vikings or Saints are more deserving of that playoff berth.

Upon sober review aj you're right. It doesn't make it less painful, but I have to come to grips that the same "Cardinal mistakes" are manifesting themselves at the wrong time. We're on the way, and for that I give our new head coach the lions share of the credit. We just need to make sure we take the next step forward.

On the bright side, we did have a few truly quality wins this year. So, it was really a strange year for us looking back on it. We had some of the lows we are way too familiar with, but we had some better than usual highs too. I think that's why it's harder to swallow some of our losses.

Remember last year?

I was in the Bay Area and had an opportunity to catch the Cards v/s 49ers Christmas Eve game of 2006. The topic on everyone's lips was that with a win over Arizona the 49ers were gonna make the playoffs. Rolle got the pick that sealed the "W" and for the next 9 months all they were talking about was "what should have been." Now look at them..... I'm not saying we're gonna suck that bad, but for those who think an 8-8 season = "turning the corner" I advise you to standby.

But PS - If we beat the Rams convincingly and maybe I'll be sipping Kool Aid on New Year's Eve!

We beat some very good offenses before losing AW and Eric Green toward the season's end. Cleveland, Cincy, even Pittsburgh sans Hines Ward are pretty solid victories. A case could be made that Whis is now more familiar with what he needs to win in the NFC West, e.g. better CB play and a more consistent pass rush.

We beat Cleveland without AW and Green, so that was definitely one of the good wins. The win over Seattle was also a solid win. I wish the unfathomable losses to SF were easy to explain, but a better pass rush and CB would've helped, for sure.
