Would be a steal at #16 IMO. However if we sign Faneca, getting a talented young RB to pair with Edge might make a bigger impact.

I've been on this guy all year. He'll probably be a better player than Will Smith and i thought Smith was the overall best DE in his draft. At the beginning of the year he likey would've been available at 16 but he's played his way into a top 10 pick. I think our pick will be one of these 3 guys, Rashard Mendenhall, Dan Connor, or Derrick Harvey.

You think we could put him at OLB in the 3-4 ?

Gholston? easily. He drops in coverage sometimes in college. He's very athletic. I imagine Harvey would fit the bill as well. Connor can definitely play out there.

Harvey is the guy I hope we get.

I think Gholston's stock might have to drop a little for us to have a chance at 13....but maybe him being a little bit of a "tweener" might help him slip to us.

But, I agree. If he's there, at this point I think he's our guy.

IMO Lawrence Jackson DE, USC is underrated by most draft sites & should be in the picture when discussing 1st round DE/OLB's.
I think he goes mid 1st round. He has the size & speed to get after the QB and could make an impact for us if we go DE/OLB in the first.

There is np doubt in anybody's mind that CB & DE are our first 2 picks, just in what order & who is there when we pick.

Some combos I would love to see

Gholston / Talib
Cason / Jackson
Harvey / Talib

I really like Lawrence Jackson but he will be lucky to sneak into Round 1 but is very unlikely to be there when we pick in Round 2.

Hypothetical question, not saying it would happen. Say we were somehow able to land Terrell Suggs through FA w/out giving up anything, and we re-sign Pace & Dansby. We are on the clock and Vernon Gholston is there, do we take Gholston or go CB.

Gholston, Pace, Dansby & Suggs would be a fantastic front 7 w/ Dockett, Hayes, & Watson/Branch. Would it even matter who played CB?

It may well be that we take DE/OLB and Cb in the first 2 rounds, but I would hope that the fates were simply smiling down on us and those were the 2 BPAs at the time, too.

Unfortunately, there are other positions that we could stand to fill, also. I wouldn't be surprised if we went OT, OG, RB, TE, MLB, FS in the first couple of rounds, either. I think by looking at all the positions you could fathomably upgrade in the offseason and marrying that with a BPA approach, it really broadens the possibilities...and increases the possibility of a successful draft.

So what happened to the bpa theory everybody professes to love?

Let's see. Pick 13 options.

If Derrick Harvey is there he would probably be BPA, same for Malcolm Jenkins, Vernon Gholston, S Kenny Phillips. I feel 13 is too early to take Stewart, Mendehall may or may not be there, Malcolm Kelly is alot like Fitzgerald, McFadden, Long, Dorsey, Brohm, Ryan will not make it to 13. It just so happens that after the first 13 picks that either a DE (Harvey) or CB (Jenkins), even Phillips would be great (he could play CB I've heard) would be the BPA which just so happens to be our two biggest offseason needs? Agree?
