Stone is better than given credit. They played him out of position like Chavous. Once Chavous went back to his natural poition he excelled. Stone may have done the same thing if given the chance. jmo.
Anyway, everytime I've spoken with him, he's been respectful and a totally class act. I wish him all the best.
Good luck my man,
DVL

y'know, you can like him as a person all you want, but in the end, he stunk as anything but a gunner on the kickoff team. he was originally given the chance at cb and failed, and then at safety and failed. what more do you want? you think the coaching staff, BOTH OF THEM, are just flat out stupid?

The thing for me was always you don't draft a kid in the 2nd round over Shaun Rogers so that one day he can be a good gunner on special teams. Stone was drafted to start, and he never could. I recall on draft day the report said the Cards had Stone regarded as possibly the best special teams player in the draft that year, and he spent virtually his whole rookie year inactive because he wasn't ready to play, EVEN on special teams?

I'm glad he was a good guy with the fans etc but he was a classic example of why Mac should never be trusted with talent evaluation and I think it's hysterical that the Rams picked him up unless they're just looking for an ST player.

can I ask a question here really quick. Apparently with GREAT Special Teams play by both Stone AND Hayes - can someone tell me why our special teams sucked so badly last year?

I Agree in principle with what your saying. To me this is far froma any great loss. But the last I checked there are 9 othe rpeople on special teams that all have a job to do.

I would be willing to bet if special teams play breaks down in one or two of the other 9 spots it will affect the performance level of the other two on the field.

(does that make any sense at all) :)

It is pretty funny.

Stone was just another bust in a long, long line of Cardinal second round busts. Couldn't even sniff the field until his fourth year in the league. Horrible pick.

Let's get right down to it: Do you think that Michael Stone's sister is going to come back and say goodbye?

Also, real quick, here are the players that Mac passed on for Michael Stone: Travis Henry, Andre Dyson, Shaun Rogers, Gary Baxter. Warms your heart.

Michael Stone, like Kyle Vanden Bosch were second-round picks that should have developed into above-average to solid starters that never, ever, ever did.

That's not really being fair to KVB. The guy got hurt. That's the biggest reason he never developed. Stone just didn't have it.

As I Said Clown

it was just my opinion. I don't think anyone's stupid. Well not on the coaching staff anyway. do I think they made some mistakes? Yup.
The guy was never given a shot at starting at CB! Show me!
And, yea, I did like him. He didn't run his mouth about other people, didn't run his mouth about his situation, didn't blame anyone but himself.
I really do wish him well and hope he does well with the Rams. Just not against us.

Like i used to post about Mac's coaching staff, name a player who ever got better playing for them. You never saw a player develop into anything better. THe first year under a new staff,Wilson almost becomes a pro bowl player. Davis starts dominating the second half of the year at his natural LT position. Russel Davis can all of a sudden make plays.

It's common knowledge that a good special teams gunner is way more important than a 1300 yd Rb or a dominant run stuffing DT.

Stone looked like some kids I watched run in high school, Like someone put a hollowed out statue on top of a person and set them on fire.

He ran so stiff it was painful to watch and how any dunce could ever believe he'd make a corner or whatever in the NFL just shows how utterly stupid some of our previous brain trusts were.

Question: Are there enough former Cardinals still on other squads to make a whole team of 22?

It seems like we've gone through a couple of hundred players in the last few years.
