This might seem unbelievable, but Melvin has to be considered

Something is strange, especially with the disparity in runs scored versus runs allowed....

Not unbelievable at all! There is no other manager who has done so much with so little!
The D-backs' offense has been at the very bottom of the league all year, yet here they are!
I would think the Rockies are close behind the D-backs in terms of succeeding with not alot of top talent.

I was just looking at that and going to comment myself...

The only other team in the West that has a negative ratio is SF...but, they have only been outscored by 9 runs...and are 14.5 games back.

How bizarre.

I guess leading the league in 1 run victories is paying off for the DBacks.

:barf: i never thought i would say this about my own team...but he doesn't deserve it. byrnes should be a player coach and get manager of the year. haha. but hey maybe im being too hard on melvin. im gonna give him a clean slate as of now as far as in game managing goes, but expect an angry post in a few games.

Is it just a coincidence that Snyder has been hitting better since Seitzer left? I know there are games where the offense is non-existent, but it seems they have been hitting better since Seitzer got fired. Thankfully he is not here to mess with Upton's head.

I think some of it had to do with Seitzer, but also Mark Grace is right about it being pretty tough to produce as the 8th hitter.

I agree we have been pretty unbelievable this season, a lot of one and two run games and we seem to always do well. Here are my dback awards...

Gold Gloves-
2nd- Orlando Hudson

Manager of the Year...
Bob Melvin

Rolaids Closer of the Year...
Jose Valverde

Can Webb pile some wins together and take away Cy Young again, or could Young make a few more defensive plays or improve his average and win a GG or ROY?

Fun team to watch as of late.

yeah are you kidding me?? Melvin has to be in the top 3 when it comes to manager of the year. If you look at our roster compared to lets say the Dodgers... theres no wayu we should be 5 up on them. Our team is filled with a bunch of 1-2 year giuys and a couple veterans who quite frankly werent very good before they came here. We really have no true home run hitter in the lineup. So he's had to play small ball and manufacture runs. I believe we still lead the league in sac flies and were second in the league in stolen bases after the break. Hes also dialed up the right pinch hitter more than any other manager as we lead the league in pinch hit home runs. Our payroll is in the bottom 1/4 of the league and we've had to play without our one key free agent, who takes up a big chunk of that small payroll, in RJ. With our record alone he should get consideration, then if you throw in all that stuff and how no one expected us to be here, he has to be right up there in the top 2-3.

As much as many on this board like to bag on Melvin, his moves have mostly paid off.

A perfect example is the last game against the pirates, he left big TC in to bat right handed and he (barely) hit a big insurance homer. and pinch hitting rillo to get a double to, eventually, take the lead.

It's not a stretch by any means. He's done a great job managing a young team. He's made good decisions with his bench and bullpen. He's doing his job.

Its pretty easy to coach when you have guys that can mash. It is quite another when you only have one hitter on your team that hits over .300(Brynes). Can a bullpen win the MVP award?j/k It goes witjhout saying that our bullpen is the strength of this team. It is also nice to know that we have 2 or 3 good relievers ready to come up as well.

He's been pulling the right strings, inserting players into the game that actually come through. Good timing? Lucky? I don't think so. Melvin has also had to be a counselor for the younger guys, and they haven't let him down yet.
