Dansby, Washington, and Dockett not there. The hope of Minter just probably went poof with his injury. Honey Badger might come back, but what will he be like is need for major concern. My biggest concern now and something hardly anyone is mentioning is the availability of Alameda Ta'amu. It was him and Dan Williams taking turns which made running the ball next to impossible. That NT is the foundation of a 3-4 in my opinion. I actually think Ta'amu clogged that middle better than Williams, and that is not saying Williams did not do well. Alameda Ta'amu is one of the best free agent pick ups this team has made

We have the best depth I remember, but in this division, small degrees of talent matter. our straws are starting to slurp the bottom of the kool aid. I think we need a RB that can control the clock.

According to Kent we shouldnt be worried

@kentsomers
#azcardinals shouldn't fret over drop from dockett to Rucker. Rucker has played well in camp, perhaps better than dock. Problem is depth.

we will solve the depth problem in the next few days

Rucker isn't the leader Dockett is in the locker room. Darnell isn't the best at his position on the team, but he makes everyone around him better.

I bought some mint St Louis Football Cardinal drinking Glasses, have some extras if anybody wants to trade for Cardinal merchandise. I have Phoenix and Arizona glasses, be neat to find a Chicago Cardinal glass.

We can toast the season with them!

Somers summed it up best. Problem will be depth. Urban floated the idea of picking up Keisel, a former Steeler (no surprise there). Rucker has looked vg, imo, in Camp.

+1

A lot of number guys are going to sweep this under the rug, and that is fine, but Dockett has been doing his job, and part of a defense that has dominated for two years, so he must be doing something right.

This offseason has made me feel this 2014 team is snake bitten. Its easy to say that someone will "step up" but I have yet to see that happen this year. This team plays in the NFC West. Last year the Cardinals missed the playoffs by a game, and I don't see how you can logic out the team will do better with less talent.

......but I should add the season is not toast. Far from it. This season will be entertaining as any you are going to see even if the team goes 8-8.

While I think losing Dockett will hurt with his leadership, I still think we're going to be a good defense. DL is an area we can absorb a loss, talent wise.

I've been wanting to give some of these backups a chance. Dockett also doesn't always play a pure DE either, he's more of a DE/DT, his replacement can be a DE on some plays and a DT other plays.

I love Dockett, but he has lost something, and there was a good shot he was gone after this season. I hope not, especially now with the injury, but it's likely. Now we have to find his replacement faster.

Every team is losing guys, and odds are most teams in the league will lose another starter between here and opening day.

Anyways, I can understand the frustration, but we still don't know about Minter, so we shouldn't be counting him as out for the season, Rucker is playing well, we're get Mathieu back, Bishop flashed and has a track record before injury, Deone will get better, Rashad Johnson is continuing to grow, and we still have CC/PP/Cro/Abraham.

I'm in no way giving up this season on defense, and I still think the talent is there to have a better one. Mostly because if everything was to have been perfect, we could of had a top or the top defense. I still think our ceiling is top 5. But I understand the frustration and that this feeling will linger until the regular season and this defense proves it can still hang.

While it was preseason, it's almost like people forgot we shut out a team not more then a week and a half ago. We'll be ok.

I don't know if we're toast or not but I was very concerned about this defense before Dockett went down. I almost think it would be easier to fix our line problems and great the league as the new offensive juggernaut in town.

Lol its like this is the first time people have watched the NFL. It literally happens to EVERY team, EVERY year with at least 1 players sometimes 7-8. Jesus just look at the Pats last year.

No excuses. I learned my lesson last year. I love DD but there are 6 guys I would have been alot more freaked out about losing. Next man up.

Geez try and act like a winner Cardinal nation. Dockett going down doesnt end the season.

Dude, you are the biggest downer on the board.

Every team has injuries and players lost to Free Agency. Get a grip.

I hate to lose DD, but next man up. Martin or Stinson will have to step up. Kiesel is on the way as an option. Mitch mentioned Shaughessey, definitely as a part time option in the right packages if the Okafors and Achos of the world can step into his role. And Rucker has been a nice player for us, and played well so far. We will miss the leadership, but someone will step it up there.

When taken in context of the totality of losses on the defensive side, the team is toast. Stop gaps are not a solution to the problem...it may be a mitigant, but not enough to make this team the contender it was.

Therefore: Toast.
