In 2002 these players were drafted in this order:

1. Yao "Take Check?" Ming
2. Jay "Hot Rod" Williams
3. Mike Done-leavy
4. Drew Not-So-Gooden
5. Skeeter (Because that's how they say in Georgia. OK, probably wrong Georgia).
6. Dajuan Wagner
7. Knee Knee
8. Chris Wilcox

The Suns had talked up Jarred Jeffries for weeks. Coach Frank "Is that your wife?" Johnson made it sound like the Suns had him sized for bronzing for the statue of Jeffries they were going to put outside the arena.

Then they drafted some punk 6-9 kid out Florida who was so notorious, HBO and ESPN "Outside the Lines" had already done stories on him. One ESPN analyst called it a big mistake -- and as an added bonus, refuses even today to admit that kid was the better choice than Jeffries.

Just in case you forgot what it's like to be excited, confused, possibly upset, then ultimately happy again because the Suns were the clear winners of the 2002 draft.

Love the names of the players. What a joke that draft was.

While watching the draft this year, I began to realize how truly mediocre it was. I'm not disappointed at all about our trading out of it. Reading this list makes me all the more comfortable with the Suns' strategy....

uh - what do you think other teams who put up similar lists say about our guy who hasn't played ball in a year and has underground one of th emost dreaded surgeries in all of sports?

9. Micro-Man

Until Amare comes back and proves he's still anything like he was, you can add us to that list of wob-begotten players.

That's a little harsh, Cheese. Amare is the legitimate star in that bunch and has produced far above the crowd he came in with, so far.....

Did I really read today somewhere that Nene is hoping for a contract averaging $10 million per season? That's absolutely absurd. I doubt he gets much more than the mid-level exception, and he really doesn't even deserve that.

Thats the Republic article I posted earlier not sure if its Coro using his sources or just speculating but if he's demanding that it is ridiculous.

Unfortunately somebody will probably pay it and then we have another Alan Houston stituation. If that happens, Diaw and LB just got a LOT more expensive

Reading that just reaffirmed my belief that Suns fans are too harsh with Aldridge with his take on the draft. He didn't really bash the pick and did correctly point out they would have been better served with Prince. I think people were upset when he didn't back down from his comments when Amare was blowing up and Jeffries was injured.

If you're going to bash him it should be for his comments about the Francis/Mobley led Rockets. He would pimp them non stop and they were never that good. Plus he's no where near as bad as the morons they had doing the draft(with exception of Bilas and Fran).

Aldridge still insists that Jeffries was the best player in that draft.

What does Aldridge do now?

No he doesn't. Even in their rookie season he said Amare was having a great year(in his chat their rookie year he did try to play it off because of Jeffries injury) and was wrong when he thought it would take Amare 4 years to make an impact(remember just about everyone thought this because of how badly the '01 HS class bombed which is why Amare fell to 9 in the first place). I dare you to find any comment by Aldridge saying Jeffries was or is better after their rookie season.

He believed the Suns hype about Jeffries, he also thought Jeffries was more ready to contribute(I belief shared by just about everyone at the time) and could get the Suns in the playoffs.

Aldridge is now an analyst for TNT whose basketball presentation blows away ESPNs and his replacement on ESPN was the shouting moron Steven A Smith, a guy who knows nothing about basketball but what people tell him. I don't even like Aldridge so I idon't know why it feels like I'm defending him, I'm sure just about everyone here has made just as bad if not worse prediction about drafted players.

Are you his cousin?

I was exaggerating. I do believe he was let go by ESPN and he did stick to his Jeffries is better than Amare assessment to the point of absurdity.

I remember someone asking him if he had changed his mind about this topic in a chat when Amare was blowing up and he still wouldn't back down. It was his arrogance that really put me off.

1. No like I said I don't even like him I just think it's funny how far people go to bash him just because he thought the Suns should draft someone else.

2. Find any quote after December of their rookie season saying he thought Jeffries was the better pick.

3. He was asked in his chat the first week of January '03 if he still thought Jeffries was the better pick, he said Amare was having a great year and playing better than he thought but Jeffries was injured so you can't compare him. This was the last time I saw him mention them together with the pick.

He's made far dumber comments I don't see why this is such a sore point with Suns fans. Tom Leander said the same things Aldridge did about the draft and no one says anything about him and he works for the team.

Aldridge has been asked about the "Jeffries is better than Amare" comment in multiple chats over the last few years and he still says he thinks Jeffries is the better player and the Suns should've picked him.

Have a link? I haven't seen an Aldridge chat in over 2 years when he was working for ESPN. The last time I saw him refrence the pick was that chat in Jan of '03.

He was right about the Casey Jacobson pick ahead of Prince.

This is why I'm glad the Suns traded out of the bottom of the draft.

They haven't been as good at finding the sleeper type picks late.
