All of these good players being signed on the first day while this team sits on there arse(unless you consider Diamond FA activity) really sucks!

However there is still planety of talent to be had out there.

How many people would be upset if this team still ended up with say:

Fernando Bryant CB
Bobby Taylor CB
Grant Wistrom DE

In case you havent read that is my wish list which will be affordable and could be done. In a perfect world I would want Darrell Jackson WR as well but I dont want to be to greedy!

Throw in our #1 draft pick and I think you Immediately have a competative team next year!

Even if my scenario doesnt happen there are still other very good FAs available at several positions. Lets hope we get it done this year!

If we went back exactly a year, there are lot of people on this board who could recycle, almost word for word, the same complaints they had then.

1. Management is sitting on their butts...
2. How come everybody else is signing players and we're not..
3. Why haven't we brought xxxx into town...

and lest we forget (when somebody does come in)

4. How the hell did they let him leave without an offer! :D

True. Above is just a list of my wishes. Probably far from what will come to fruition. But would still make me happy none the less.

Something similar to that in any form would suit me fine as well.

I guess the plan is still the belly of this beast. I disagree with that stance though.

The Cards could have made their move this year. The offense, in it's purest form is not far away. Proper coaching and schemeing should help alot and I think the fear/motivation provided by Bob Wiley is going to whip the line into shape. Add Fitz whom I presume is the Cards choice and all of a sudden the offense has teeth.

Defense should have been address with bigger names in FA than Hicks and Macklin. Defense is the Achilles Heel and looks like it will continue to be especially since all likelihood the defense won't be addressed until round 2 in April.

If the Cards got those three guys, I would be pleased but at the rate guys are signing, those guys may not be around by the time Graves gets around to contacting them.

You may be right but I sure hope not.

In an above scenario is there any doubt this team could contend in the NFC West this year?

WHo's signed?

Kearse, Washington, Jones and Griffin??? That's 4 of 32 teams...... I wouldn't say every other team is signing tons of players.

If not instantly contending, certainly in 2005...willing to cut a year slack while 2 whole newe systems are put into place.

But yes, this team would be dramatically improved. Problem is, I think the writing is on the wall with the guys scheduled to be brought in...and it goes in line with Graves comments in the paper about "role" players. Hicks and Macklin are pretty much role type players. Wistrom, Taylor, Bryant are playmakers.

We're a couple days in to free agency. How would you know or I, who precisely they have their eyes on? In addition, meetings are scheduled and it takes both parties to agree on a time. Frankly, I find some of the hyperventilating and wringing of hands (not necessarily by you) at this point - comical.

You can find it comical all you want. But when you see how other teams operate. Then you look at the speed or lack thereof that this team operates it becomes almost funny!

I would love the FA acquisitions from Shane's first post.

But I'm a TJ fan...no denying that.

I would be extremely happy upgrading three positions at CB, OL, and DL which can be done with $8 - $10 million if we pick the right players.

Personally, I also don't understand why you guys don't see that DT is more of a need than DE.

I would love for the Cardinals to draft Sean Taylor, but it seems from all accounts that they're putting more emphasis on upgrading the defense through FA....

If that's the case, then that means it more likely that the Cardinals will focus on improving the offense through the draft...
So it possibly could be hello to either Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Williams, or of course either Eli/Ben....

This team needs very badly someone who can get tto the QB consistently. It is much harder to find that at DT than it is at DE!

What a premier DT will get you about 8 sacks a year maybe on average?

Not disagreeing with what you are suggesting because I think you are right but this is not the way I envision upgrading the defense.

Good DT play will open things up for our DEs (who by the way are raw athletic freaks who need to be coached properly) to get more sacks by limiting rushing gains hence making obvious passing downs more prevalant and by pushing the pocket back to prevent QBs from stepping up and hopefully drawing some double teams.

Robaire Smith is still available. Graves needs to call his agent right now and give him a contract offer similiar to the one Griffin just got in Washington.

Thats all semantics. Good DE play will also open things up for a DT as well. Pick your poison!

Call it what you want to, but good defensive teams are built up the middle, not on the edges. With our present DTs we could have Simeon and Kearse at DE and offenses would still kill us.

Not disagreeing with what you are suggesting because I think you are right but this is not the way I envision upgrading the defense.

I was mainly asserting that since they're the first FA "reportedly" that they will be the first players invited in for a work-out signifies that it's the Cardinals priority to "upgrade" the defense via FA and perhaps focus on the offense in the draft....

I honestly don't know who Hicks and Macklin are, so I can't judge either of them whatsoever.....It's better than some of the players they relied on this past season....

The best strategy to employ during FA is to bring in the "bargain" middle caliber players first....Perhaps they didn't get the playing time or their style of player didnt suit the "system" of the former teams and perhaps Graves/Green have done extensive evaluations on them and have a better idea on how to utilize them than they have in the past....If those players don't impress during work-outs, then pursue better quality players.... But don't get too desperate and throw-out money just for the sake of throwing-out money....Thats the worst thing possible.....

Also, I dont mean to be a broken record, but we still dont know whether or not the Cardinals had some discussion with the "bigger named" FAs that have been signed thus far, so we shouldnt jump to conclusions that the Cardinals are too passive/inactive in the market.....

Thats a far out opinion. If we had Kearse and Rice at DE this team would wreak havoc off the edge. Making our pass defense 100% better!

We would not be killed! Well just have to agree to disagree.
