This year last year's trade might have been sweet.

If the Cards had the 6th pick this year trading down for 17 and 18 might be a sweet move.

There is a lot of depth in this draft because of Fitz and M Williams.

Look at the options one might have at 17 and 18:

a CB: like Poole or Duanta
a OLB: like DJ Williams
a DE: like W Smith
a OT: like Andrews
a RB: like K Johnson
a DT: like Wilfork

By the 6th pick look who could be gone this year:
1 Fitz
2 M Williams
3 Gallery
4 Taylor
5 Eli

Even at 3 a trade down is tempting for 17 and 18 (like was available last year) sure its risky but if Fitz and M Williams are gone you might get 2 slots filled with
1 pick. Get K Jones the speed RB AND get a CB/DT/OL/LB to help solidify another position. Then in Round 2 take the BPA WR.

The problem this year is the team wih 2 picks is NE they do not have 17 18 if you take their picks your odds of getting a solid player drop.

What?
And if my Aunt had a pecker she'd be my Uncle. Last year was last year Cardfan. Let's move on to the here and now. There isn't much favorable stuff to reminisc (sp) about so the future is the best thing we got going.

Yeah this is a pure fantasy type post. I almost didn't post it.
The only legit point is there is a lot of depth this year.

Vikesfan -

While your thinking may seem sound in theory, I see three potential monkey wrenches.

1. All the guys you've mentioned could be gone by #17.

2. Two or three may not belong in the top 17 - Specifically, Poole, Dunta or even Kevin (do you mean) Jones.

3. Enough with "filling roster holes." (We did this last year). This team appears ready to add some really good players at the top (and apparently we're not going to accomplish this in free agency). Let's assume the top 6 players in this year's draft are: Mike Williams, Fitzgerald, Taylor, Manning, Gallery and Kevin Winslow (or Roethlisberger). The drop off from these guys to guys like Poole, Robinson or Jones is pretty steep and might rob us of the really talented players we need to upgrade the team.

One way to at least partly resolve this dilemma is for you to (a) list your Top 17 board (of guys you want us to draft) so that (b) we'd be guaranteed at least one of those players no matter who any other team drafted. (This of course assumes that there are 17 players we consider dominant enough to want to draft with our top pick).
