My brother-in-law is a Seattle fan. He absolutely believes the Seahawks made a push for Whitehurst only so that the Cards would "waste" a third round pick.

Personally, I'd like to see what the guy can do here.

Differing views on Foote's injury

Quite a few ties link the Cardinals and Steelers. One difference this week could have been how each organization viewed linebacker Larry Foote's injury situation.

Foote, who signed with Pittsburgh after visiting Arizona, missed time last season with a foot injury.

Foot injuries can be tricky to evaluate. Darren Urban of azcardinals.com alluded to the issue Monday. Reading between the lines, the interpretation of that injury was likely important as the Cardinals decided how hard to push in closing the deal.

Amen. I want nothing to do with Whitehurst if he's one of our 2 big contracts AND we have to give up a 3rd to get him.

... Because if the money is equal, any young QB looking at an opportunity to play with the Cardinals must be licking his chops. Right now the same cannot be said about the Seahawks'. And really it's not all that close....
I have to challenge that.

Whether you're coming in as a backup or it's to challenge the starter, a strong case can be made that you'd have better odds of eventually starting when you're slotted behind an aging veteran with a bad back than you would slotted behind the lefthanded boy wonder.

Plus there's the Pete Carroll mystique. And there could be locale-preference factors.

I'm not saying the Cards are at a disadvantage, but I certainly don't think (all other things being equal) that it's anywhere near the slam-dunk for for us Mitch makes it out to be.

BTW - Nice inside analysis of the Foote/FA Status/Dollars, Mitch.

OK! I admit it... I was WRONG!!

I was pretty pumped about Porter & Foote being in Cardinals' RED. I thought they'd bring leadership and a bit of attitude/nastiness to the D complimenting what we already have. I also thought from a PR stand-point it would make a BOLD statement to anyone who follows football. BUT...

With info coming out about Foote's foot injury and Porters' asking price, I'm okay with how things turned out. Course, we may still sign Porter but I don't see us over-paying now. So, I think I over-reacted. Ever since Michael B. & Coach Whiz' came on-board I've looked at the going's on and thought, I can see where this might be a good thing. As they say, or used to say anyway, the proof is in the pudding! ...And the success of the past 2 years speaks for itself. Yeah, I know...Unfinished business! But I sure as heck enjoy being in the play-offs rather than watching them.

So, the Cards are making moves. I'm going to R-E-L-A-X and have Faith that it'll turn out ok in the end. MUCH easier on the heart! :) Always ENJOY your posts, Mitch. Their tinged w/reality yet sprinkled w/optimism! GO CARDS! :D

Thanks, Jeff. How's things in Jersey today? We are booked for LBI the first week of August, this year the rental is right on the ocean. Man, those are the days my friend!

You know, the more we wait the more I think you may be right...maybe he should change his name to Waithurst. Geesh.

I can imagine Pete Carroll calling him every hour with a new perc..."Hey, Charlie, we know a BMW dealer up here who has assured us that you will be riding in style..."

Good stuff, NSDF!

I agree with you to a point...but, in the case of Joey Porter, I think the Cardinals should offer a decent 2 year deal in the $11-12M range. His signing would be a statement signing...DD would be a twittering away...and the Cardinals are two pass rushers and another ILB away from being pretty danged good on defense.

I hope the Cardinals make a run for Andra Davis. I would feel very good about him at the SILB and the combination of Paris Lenon and a good draft pick at WILB.
