Jarrett Brown, QB

Height: 6-3 | Weight: 224 | College: West Virginia

02/19/2010 - PRO POTENTIAL: There are no potentially high draft choices coming out of West Virginia this season, as the team gradated very few players off its starting units. QB Jarrett Brown - He started only one season after Patrick White left, and after an early-season concussion in the Marshall game, he did not perform as he had before. He went to the Senior Bowl and actually performed well in practice. His size and arm strength meet professional standards, and there is talk he could be a mid- to late-round draft pick. He will be further evaluated at the NFL combine.

01/28/2010 - SENIOR BOWL RISER: QB Jarrett Brown, West Virginia: For all of the hype that Tim Tebow received this week, Brown was consistently the South's best quarterback. He had only one season as the starter after serving behind Pat White, but has the arm-strength and accuracy worthy of development. - Rob Rang, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com

They did pretty well with Watson & Robinson in the middle last year. Again adding an athletic NT would cause more problems in my book. The Cowpies DE's (Spears & Olshansky) are pluggers & aren't near the pass rushers CC & DD are.

If we added Torrel Troup - we;d have the double trouble Birdgang line.

CC, DD and TT. :D

You think he makes it anywhere near us in the 3rd? Otherwise a trade up?

I think he should still be there, but lots of teams moving to the 3-4, running the 3-4, or looking for a quality big guy for their 4-3 Defense. There might be a run.

From what I have seen -

1. We know he is strong, put up 44 reps on the bench.
2. Short stocky dude at 6-1, 305.
3. Run stopper not a pass rusher, but has the strength and leverage to push a pocket to help the pass rushers around him. And he does know how to use his strength but needs work on how to utilize his leverage and hands better.
4. Has a motor to burn, tough nosed, and just wont quit. But he is limited athletically, but coaches can fix that.

Jared Odrick Height: 6-5 | Weight: 304 | 40-Time: 5.06
You must be registered for see images

Strengths:
Great size with a long frame --- Very good athlete --- Terrific speed and quickness --- Really fires off the snap --- Strong and powerful --- Active with a non-stop motor --- Does a nice job in pursuit --- Has a burst to close --- Uses his hands well --- Able to penetrate, get upfield and can collapse the pocket --- Aggressive --- Competitive --- Smart with superb instincts and awareness --- Hard worker --- Some schematic versatility.

Weaknesses:
Doesn't always play with proper leverage --- Not very agile and doesn't move well laterally --- Is not overly stout at the point of attack --- Feet go dead at times --- Gets neutralized by double-teams --- Has trouble getting off blocks once engaged --- Relatively average production and did not make a lot of impact plays --- Some minor durability concerns.

Notes:
Last name is pronounced "ODD-rick" --- Was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions --- Earned All-American honors in 2009 --- Named 1st Team All-Big Ten in 2008 and 2009 --- The Big Ten Defensive Player and Defensive Lineman of the Year as a senior --- Season was cut short by a broken hand and ankle in '07 --- The type who does everything well but nothing great --- Could project to either defensive tackle (three-technique) in a 4-3 or defensive end (five-technique) in a 3-4 --- Not particularly flashy but offers a nice mix of physical tools and intangibles.

IS it just me or do some of the strengths and weaknesses contradict each other?

As for Odrick watching PSU many times he can certainly penetrate and collapse the interior line. He does have good pursuit. I also think he holds up well at the point of attack.

That is exactly why I hate draftcountdown. They do that with all of their reports on players.

Thanks for the input on Odrick.

So in your opinion he could be a NT in a 3-4 defense?

Whats especially good about the porter signing is that allows us, as mitch kind of alludes to, to go bpa.

It's the best way to be succesful in the draft.

I love the idea of drafting Damien Williams in the 3rd round. I think he is going to be a stud in the NFL and he is dynamite of returning the ball as well.

1st- Weatherspoon
2nd - Gronkowski
3rd - Troupe
3rd - Damien Williams
4th - John Skelton
6th - Brandon Spikes

I heard Kiper today saying definitively Spikes has dropped to a 5th or 6th round pick. That would be the ideal draft IMO

As a whole, I like this draft. I am skeptical of Gronkowski's back, and not super sold on Skelton, but I like that we are addressing the positions of TE & QB.

Good thoughts Mitch. I really hope we stay true to our board BPA at #26. :yeahthat:Yep!
1) I sooooooo hope McClain falls to #26 as Cbus seems to think because it would fill a major hole on our D This would be great. I like Weatherspoon here also!

2) If McClain & Weatherspoon are gone (which I think they will be) looking past a speedy OLB such as Hughes or Graham (if available) would be a mistake despite the addition of Porter. Haven't we seen this the past few seasons with our lackluster OLB play? We have a stockpile of unknowns after Haggans & Porter

3) I hope we don't select Cody at #26 because I feel he will eat himself out of the league I have a lot of concerns about Cody. More bust than boom potential!

4) If I'm picking a guy for the middle of our Dline it's Odrick I like Odrick (PSU homer here) but at #26 it would seem too high, and he very likely won't last until the 2nd round pick.

5) would love to have another "small school" CB with something to prove in Owusu-Ansah but feel we will have to trade up in the 3rd to get him (From IUP, my alma mater.) With all the press he is getting I have a feeling that he will go much higher than projected, and won't be there in the third.

6) Levi Brown, QB Troy Luv him!!!

I really know next to nothing about it, so my opinion should be as close as most of the talking heads... :)
