Just got back from the Suns game last night. First AWA impressions:

What has all the money been spent on? I didn't attend a game last year, but was at AWA for a couple games two seasons ago before they started the rebuilding project. The bathrooms are the same. The team store doesn't look that much better, if at all. The Italian restaurant looks cool, but how many fans will eat there. I had Platinum Club tickets, and the new lounge has been remodeled and looks nice, but has way less seating overall than the old Platinum Club had. Also, the reason for sitting in the old Club section was the cool at your seat food ordering service they had two seasons ago. You could order from all the different vendors in the stadium and before you could finish paying a person would magically appear with ALL the food and drink you ordered, no matter how many different vendors it came from. Also, at the same prices you would pay if you stood in line at all those places!! Cool! However, that service is now GONE! Pay $75 a ticket, and you get to pay $20 a plate to eat in the lounge, and noone there can teall you what ingredients are in the food. Not cool if you have a food allergy!!

The team:

Our offense is lost right now. We get the ball into Amare on the post and JJ and Marion are lost. It appears JJ's slow starts are from the ball going into Amare and JJ not getting shots. They need to work JJ and Amare on the same side like Stockton and Malone. Marion can free lance on the weak side when the two man game between Amare and JJ breaks down. I see them doubling on Amare every time he gets the ball. Therefore JJ should be dishing him the ball and getting the open shots when they double Amare. If they don't leave JJ, then they have to double from the weak side, and Marion, Barbosa or Jake should get some easy buckets. So far D'Antoni has me shaking my head on his offensive sets.

Our blocking out on the weak side is abysmal!! Time after time the offensive rebounders of the Jazz came in from the weak side to get rebounds. Our small ball guys are getting to the right spots for the baords, then let the opposing players go right around them for the board. Why doesn't anyone on this team use their body to block out?? Ironically, the only small ball guy I saw do this last night was Barbosa.

Watching those guys live, our players had a lot more natural ability, but the Jazz had so much better team play right now. Maybe it could just be the youth factor on our team, but unless they start learning, or the coaching gets better, we are going to get our heads handed to us on a regular basis. Right now we are only losing games by 4, and we are playing off just natural ability right now. Give this team some discipline and a system, and they could be a very good team.

The only guy I saw that really impressed me on the Jazz was Karilenko. Ostertag was the recipient of some lax refereee work. I counted to 1005, 1006, and a few 1007's with Ostertag in the lane last night. I'm sure Jake could get double digits in scoring if he could stand in the lane that long. I tried yelling down to the refs from my seats, but I don't think they heard me!! :D

I agree completely. I don't know how long it takes to learn an offensive system, but the Suns do seem to struggle.

I think the problem on blocking out relates to the fact that Jake gets pushed around and both Amare and Shawn are leapers. They think they can catch every rebound and ignore their man, although I think Amare was out of position most of the time.
