1. What a tantalizing choice this must have been for the Cardinals...as many of us thought there would be some major surprises sitting there at #31...the three that come to mind are:

RB Beanie Wells
DE Everette Brown---IMO the most effective and natural edge rusher in this draft, but is on the smaller side and is light, which doesn't exactly fit the Steeler, er Cardinal, OLB criteria...but still this kid could have helped in an area that needs fresh legs and quicker bursts.
LB Rey Maualuga---an ILB who really could have been the heir apparent to LB Karlos "Wanna Make a Splash" Dansby.

In Wells the Cardinals get the most physically talented RB in this draft. The concers obviously are his durability and what kind of a match he is for the current offense. The turf toe injury is a bugaboo and could continue to be. But, this is where this pick could turn into a gold mine for the Cardinals: Beanie, let us re-introduce you to John Lott. Lott brought Hightower in. called him Baby Huey and went right to work on prepping him for making a mark as a rookie. If the same happens for Wells, the Cardinals will have a two-headed monster at RB in Hightower and Wells. Forget that some they they are too similar. It doesn't matter. What matters is they are both agressive, tough football players who aspire for greatness.

Also, in two years after Warner is gone, the entire emphasis of this offense may be put on the smashmouth running game...at that point Hightower will be heading into his 4th year and Wells into his third. Along the way a speed RB will be added to compliment the other two, perhaps even in this draft later on.

As for Drew Rosenhaus' prediction that Q would be traded by the end of the first round, this is where Rosenhaus is damaging his clients. He has a totally jaded and unrealistic outlook on what the market is and what teams are willing to pay, especially for his cadre of disgruntled "me first: WRs. Sad to know Q is one of them.

Wells is a speed RB Mitch. We have a legit two headed monster now. Im thinking 15-18 carries for Chris and 10 or so for Timmy. Just enough to keep Chris healthy and fresh for the homeruns.

Hopefully Wells will know how to block from the shot gun or Warner will get killed because Hightower does not. Edge is a SMART player and there will be a drop off from that aspect. Wells better be a major upgrade.

Pass blocking can be taught. Hightower was better at it as the year went on. Im not concerned.

Chris Wells is going to benefit greatly from working with Lott, and the present offensive coaching staff..

No offense to OSU, because I am a fan, but the strength and conditioning program is mediocre as are the offensive coaches in my opinion. Wells has also run behind an at times bad OLine at Ohio St.

Wells will be the perfect running back to compliment Leinart when he takes over in 2010. Whiz is putting a team in place for the long run.

Then why didn't KW get "killed" when he (Edge) was benched for half the season. I thought that TH did as good as you can expect from a rookie, and will improve evn more this year.

235 pounds, legit 4.5 speed, I can see John Lott taking him under his wing and him[wells] losing 8-10 #s gaining wind, strength and speed, and health!! 6'1" 227, hard, mean rb coming at you through the hole. with our offense, he will learn to catch.
..."An A+ for the first BPA/needs pick"...

I remember (I think) hearing about Wells last year or maybe even 2 years ago. Some had posted something about how good he would be and was hoping we could get him when he came out 'cause we missed out on AP. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.....

what suprised a lot at the combine was how well he caught the ball and that lead a lot to contribute the idea of him not being a good reciever out of the backfield more to the Ohio St. offense and how they used him...even his coaches at Ohio St. were said to be surprised by his catching ability at the combine LOL

if he stays healthy, we will have an elite back and with the subpar blocking he had at Ohio State...our OL's run blocking should not freak him out ;)
what I do like, is that he hits the hole hard and is a great cutback runner and unlike current backs on our roster, the guy has the speed to be a homerun hitter and gaining over 20-30 yards on a run if he breaks free taking out defensive players in his way with his size
I never dared to put him on my mock for the cards because who would have thought he would have lasted to 31

Shhh.... if you listen closely you can hear the safetys creeping up to the line of scrimmage and Kurt Warner calling an audible.

Yep. Wells excels at sharp, full speed changes of directions. It will be a carry share and it is a great situation for us.

ESPN analysts said that opposing defenses focused their defense around stopping Wells and that he will be relieved that the Cardinals have a good passing attack so he will not be the sole target of game plans. They joked about it but it sounds like Wells running game may well benefit from the Cardinals passing attack.

Another thought: In Cody Brown your going to get the Anquan on the defense. 6' 2" 252, quick, fast and mean and likes to hit people. Every one is going to enjoy this guy.

I agree. Warner will recognize the opposing defensive set and audible accordingly.

He is certainly build like and sounds like the prototypical 3-4 OLB we're looking for. Reminiscent of Harrison, kind of like English is.

We got our RB and our Edge-Rushing DE in rounds 1 and 2. Better RB than we could have expected, and a very decent edge-rusher. So far, so good --- now, bring on the line-backers, and the safety. This has the potential of completing, and complementing, our depth all across the board. Great start FO.
