I was wondering if it was just the Suns that were struggling from the three point arc (just 34.3% this preseason). Here are the results in preseason of the top three point shooting teams from last season.

San Antonio 33.3%
Detroit 32.7%
Milwaukee 43.1%
Chicago 29.4%
Orlando 42.4%
Toronto 45.1%
Dallas 37.6%
Memphis 26.8%
Seattle 25.0%
Atlanta 36.4%

Milwaukee, Orlando and Toronto are doing very well. Dallas and Atlanta are close to what they did last season. San Antonio, Detroit, Memphis and Seattle are well below what they did last season.

If every team was doing worse, there would be a case for blaming the ball. Obviously some teams are adjusting to the new ball better than others.

It's one thing to pontificate about statistical percentages, it's yet another to do it regarding preseason statistics, with preseason offenses against preseason defenses.

If the league decides to keep the new ball, players will have to deal with it. Right now Barbosa doesn't like it and neither does Nash but they'll adjust in time. Quick ball movement and outside shooting are major pieces of the Suns game. There isn't much margin for error on the 3-point shot and turnover stats might bounce around unless they get the feel of it in a hurry. I really wish they'd dump the synthetic ball but rather doubt they will.
