It's just that so often the evaluations are wrong between 4 star and 5 star players.

We do need forwards. But if we get a top two pick I don't mind taking one of those two and figuring the rest out later.

No... apparently their philosophy is to always be bad enough not to make it close to being in the playoffs and not bad enough to really give themselves the best chance to get the superstar in the draft that will get them out of purgatory.
Right. I call this the "Stupid Philosophy"

Yes that's true. But those that are tagged as superstars rarely fail based on talent.

While I agree that trading those guys might be in our best interest, particularly because we are NOT good, they are NOT really youngsters (even Bledsoe), and they all DO have real value to bring back REAL assets, I disagree with your assessment. A loss is a loss in the standings. It gets us no closer to the playoffs but shows we are competitive, which is a good experience for the young guys.

But if you're right, then this is a disaster of a win.

I've been listening to Ryan on Burns & Gambo show all season and, unfortunately, not until today did I hear him sound really hopeful about the current season. I think it's clear that the last second losses to Utah and Minnesota along with the wins against the Spurs and others has them wondering whether it's too early to be looking at outgoing trades and the draft. Here's a quote from today's interview about the next 12 games or so taken from the ArizonaSports.com site:

They’re very important, obviously, in determining whether we’re a viable team to potentially compete for and get into the playoffs this year or not,” McDonough said. “If we’re within striking distance of the eighth seed at the trade deadline, that will probably help determine our approach. And if we’re not, if we’re not a viable playoff contender, that will probably determine it the other way. We’re kind of open to either direction at this point.

Said ala Dean Wormer: I hate that guy.

Can't wait to see us do something idiotic... like trading away some of those draft picks for a guy who can give us a real shot at landing the 10 seed!

I don't think we will as long as we can avoid explainable last second losses like last night and unexpected wins like we had against the Spurs and the Raptors. We need more Knight just to be safe. But if by some unholy miracle we should pull out 4 or 5 wins over the next 10 games, say goodbye to the Miami picks.

The next ten games should be pretty rough for us. We have only 2 games against EC teams - Bucks and Bulls both here. Home and away with both Denver and the Grizz, at Kings, at Pels, at Rockets and Clips here. Of course, McD might consider a 4-6 record as a positive sign...

We need Portland, Denver, or Pelicans to get on a roll and widen the gap to 8 games or so. Wolves or Kings or Mavs are welcome to do it, too.

Why can't somebody ask McDonough why he wants the damn 8th seed so bad?

Is it worth it to get the 8th seed with a losing record to get spanked by the Warriors and miss out on what's being called the greatest NBA draft ever?

It seems so obvious...one of the greatest drafts ever > Get beat by the Warriors in 4 games with the closest game being 25 pts apart.

I don't think they would get it even if they tried. Just like many of the last 7 years, they would fall short and end up with the 13th or 14th pick. Denver or Portland have much better chances at it.

He did it again on Towns. Not sure why he thinks he can take Towns to the rim when Towns is probably the 2nd most athletic big man in the game after Davis.

Towns is a poor defender.

And hardly the 2nd most athletic big man in the game, and Davis is certainly not the most athletic.

Every GM HAS to say that. No GM can say, "This is one of the greatest drafts in years so we are tanking, even though we think we could win games." The league wants teams trying to be competitive. Its amazing that he actually said they would consider going "the other way" at the deadline if the playoffs are out of reach.
