God, he is just awful, he reminds me of a poor mans Jim Everett (ok, a destitute mans Jim everett) Talk about happy feet!

Is there any chance at all he stays on this team?

I really hope not.

We all know that Navarre remains as the 3rd string QB. We also all know that we're in big trouble if the Cards get down to their 3rd stringer. Next year, we'll find his replacement.

I think that you are right on this. If both Warner and Leinart go down Denny would sign a veteran free agent qb to compete with Navarre. There are always some out there. (i.e. Koy Detmer). We will have a different 3rd stringer (QB) next year for sure.

Problem there is that is now four roster spots for QBs assuming that your 1 or 2 don't end up on IR. It's time to admit that Navarre is not the Answer. (Allen Iverson is...)

Leinart's shoulder tweak probably assures he's on the final roster, and get's his salary guaranteed for the year. That said; I wouldn't be surprised if someone new shows up to run the scout team in the next few weeks.

HUH! At first I didn't get this...

The way the sentence reads is that Leinart will make the roster because he tweaked his shoulder. You mean that Navarre will make the roster due to Leinart's shoulder tweak, right?

We're not going to leave ourselves with 2 QB's (one of whom will be a slightly risky proposition until he no longer needs to ice his non-throwing shoulder).

So the question is - If not Navarre, who?

That becomes a judgment call for the coaches. My criteria for #3 is that we should have a chance to win should he be called upon to play. I don't think Navarre meets that criterion.

So the question should be modified to - Who's out there we could win with?

I'll buy into Koy Ditmer. I'd take a hard look at the Viking #3 guy O Sullivan - who suddenly became #4 after they traded with the Jets for Bollinger. And there probably will be a couple of others.

One criteria I'd insist on for our #3 (unless he was the reincarnation of Johnny Unitas) is that he can beat the other team with his feet. At least he could run his way out of trouble at crunch time if he had to.

Think Doug Flutie would like one more shot?

Navarre will remain on this team for a few reasons:

#1 He was drafted by Denny

#2 He has been in the system for a couple of years now and at least has some game experience

#3 He doesn't count much against the cap

Yeah, but, like someone mentioned on another thread, consider him #2 with the high probability of Warner getting hurt in few games. That is a very scary thought. I think even Q can probably be a better QB with few reps during practice...

Right. The original question... (was) "was there any chance that Navarre would make the team." I responded to that...

I'm not opposed to us going into the season with 2 QBs on the roster. Nine other teams are.

For what it's worth. He recently turned down a lucrative short term deal to rejoin the Toronto Argos of the CFL.

They just signed Boyd. I fully expect Navarre to be released shortly.

The difference is those other teams dont have Warner as their starter. So it is only a matter of time till we are down a QB.

But they signed Boyd to the PS. That still leaves Navarre at #3. Question - Is Boyd ready now to "plug and play" (& win) should we need to play as our 3rd string QB?

If the answer is "yes", I'd hope - after he learns the offense - we'd move him up from the PS to replace Navarre. If not, we might be better off leaving him on the PS. But that still leaves us with Navarre.

Does anyone think the Cards might make another QB move so that we wind up with KW, ML and Newbie #2 on the regular roster and Newbie #1 (Boyd) on the PS?

Or is the roster tinkering over?

I think Boyd is a look to the future. I also think our roster moves are now complete.
