if green thought mccown was still the qb of the future he would have never signed kurt warner.

chang would not be a starting qb for about 3 more season. chang going to see a lot of nfl europe. one more thing. you don't become the all time passing leader in college by not being able to throw the ball. chang has the physical tools. he has to get the mental tools together.

I dont think DG necessarily thinks that McNown or Navarre is the QB of the future. We had too many holes to fill and the QB position wasnt particularly strong in this draft. Signing Warner tells me McNown is probably not the future QB but that Warner is perhaps a 2 yr or so stopgap and he will reevaluate at the season end and possibly address in next year's draft. In the meantime, Warner still has the potential of performing well, with 2 adequate backups that can only get better with his presence.

DG not drafting a QB tells me a lot about his take on our QB situation. Everyone knows that Warner is not a solution beyond one or two seasons. Drafting a QB would let McCown and Navarre know that their future is not with the Cardinals. Not drafting a QB tells me that DG thinks either McCown or Navarre is the QB of the future. Warner is a great mentor. Maybe, just maybe, DG thinks McCown will get it with his tutelage.

I saw change play live two times and on TV Several times. He throws passes without thinking, and can't hit receivers with consistency. Boise state beat him the last three or four years, and he even threw 4 interceptions to one player. He has a passing record, but hawaii throws 70 times a game.

Having satelite TV and working third shift I have stayed up several times and seen him play, and I think Boisesuns has it dead on. Camp Fodder and maybe NFLE next year, would exopect more then that.l

I disagree. Maybe Green saw some things in McCown that he thought a year or two as a protege under Warner could help. (i.e. becoming a better pocket passer) Oh, and cutting down on the number of fumbles. :p I think Josh had more than Warner last year, didn't he?

BTW, I am not anointing McCown as the QB of the future...just an attempt to pick Denny's brain. I just think that Warner has a very short shelf life. We need to address the QB situation sooner than later. And I don't mean via free agency. We need to draft a young franchise QB. The fact that we didn't go for an Orton or McPhereson made me step back and reevaluate Denny's assessment of the QB situation.

Warner is the tutor for Navarre. McCown will not be with the Cardinals next year.

I agree which is why I said Chang has a shot at being #3.

Chang is a camp body. From what I've seen of him, I don't think he is better, or could even become better, than any of the QBs already on this team. Did you see him against Boise State? 69-3 final score. 4 picks, 0 TD's. He might do OK playing arena ball.

I don't buy the talk that McCown won't be a Card after next season. If anything, he's a pretty decent backup who has 20 games of experience. If Warner falters, and it is possible since he has bombed out with his last two teams, McCown could get another shot and become the starter again.

Here's the positives and negatives from PFW's draft guide.

Positives - Excellent production. Very lively arm with a tremendously quick release. Compact throwing motion. Good arm strength. Can move around the pocket and throw on the run with accuracy. Nice mobility. Can throw with touch.

Negatives - Slight frame with narrow shoulders. Inconsistent and erratic. Forces too many balls into coverage and relies on receivers to adjust to the ball. Tends to lock onto his primary target and needs to do a better job of looking off and making progression reads. Plays in a run and shoot offense with a lot of predetermined reads and lacks great field vision. Rarely sets his feet, and throwing motion is very inconsistent. Not a great leader and has a very average work ethic. Not very mentally tough and gets distracted too easily.

Summary - Plays in a gimmicky offense that rarely translates to the next level and will never be better than Ty Detmer, a career NFL backup. Does not possess the intangibles teams seek and must improve his work ethic and focus to have a chance at the next level. Stands a chance to develop on a practice squad.

The last part of the negatives is what really concerns me.

As a huge Buckeyes fan, I watch every second of every game. As you all know, the Ohio St./Michigan rivalry is possibly the biggest in all of sports. I pay close attention to all of the Michigan games as well. I've watched Navarre a lot throughout his career. He just doesn't have it. I know a lot of Michigan fans who were glad to see him graduate. Man, I would LOVE to eat crow on this, but my theory in no way includes Navarre.
The same case could easily be made for McCown. Chang sucks, it's really a waste of time arguing his pros and cons because there's no way he makes the team even with Southern Methodist and Michigan rejects ahead of him on the depth chart.

Wow.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel.

I hope Warner stays healthy.

Anquan for QB?

In know way did I ever make a case for Chang. This was an argument as to why we may not have drafted a QB. Warner as a mentor for McCown and/or Navarre ( I personally would exclude Navarre, but others feel differently). Chang wasn't even a part of the equation.

If Green thinks Josh is still the QB of the future how come he only got a 1 year tender? Why didn't we sign him to a longer deal and lock him in at a lower price?

I noticed several of the fans here haven't had the chance to watch Chang play. If you go to http://www.TimmyChang.net you notice a ton of clips to watch. You guys should realy check out the Michigan State vs Hawaii video clips. You'll see Chang throw a 50 yard strike on a rope! Amazing. I don't think i've seen a throw like this before from a college player.

Chang does have problems playing in cold-weather games. He played poorly in the Boise State game and the Fresno St game. The temperatures were below 50 degrees. The kid is from Hawaii so you can kind of understand he was freezing his butt off. That's why Arizona is the perfect place for Chang. It's hot in AZ... something Chang will have no problems with.

If Green really thought Josh was the QB of the future, Warner wouldn't be here. But Josh is probably better than half of the washed up scrubs they could have brought in here to compete for the job. He still might have a future with the team. Look at Brees and San Diego. Anything can happen.

I've watched Chang play a ton and I'm not that impressed. Every player looks good on their highlight reel.
