I just want to see what guys out there love this movie...as much as I do.

I'm a sap, aka chick-flick-ski, but I can't help it...Titanic is an awesome movie...and I'm listening to the soundtrack right now :)

So where are all the closet Titanic fans out there...come forth, admit you're a loser and join me!

:D

Mike

PS. Girls can respond too, as I don't foresee many guys having the nads to admit it :)

I will admit it. It had a little bit of everything in it. Well acted, good story, drama, action, sad, ect.

It is in my collection.

I absolutely HATE this movie.

I saw it once and I swore to myself I would never watch it again.

Then it was on TV and I tricked myself into watching it again. Yeah, I hated it even more than the first time.

Sorry Mike!

The ending was too predictable.

Great, great movie. It was very good. Plus, you get to see Kate Winslett with her top off, and that doesn't suck at all.

If you watch it, and KNOW all the timing of the real event, how long it took to sink, poor use of lifeboats, failure of ships in the area to respond, etc., it really drives home the ineptitude of man during a disaster. Especially when you SEE all the wood, lower exits to the water, and waste of time that was done in starting to abandon the ship, and how MANY lives could have been saved, it really made me MAD watching it. I remember seeing everyone crying in the movie theatre I saw it in when the lights came on, and I was the only person pissed off. My wife asked why I was mad, and I told her how I took the movie, and she and others around me looked stunned and said they hadn't thought about it that way. They got caught up in the sadness of the romantic storyline. It STILL pisses me off seeing the ending!

Although new evidence points in the direction that the ship sank much quicker than depicted - in less than 10 minutes.

The one scene that really got to me is the scene with the old couple in their quarters, holding eachother as they know they are about to die.

Ugh. Breaks my heart!

Not saying you are wrong, just how does the new evidence explain all the annecdotal testimony of crew and passengers that survived giving them the hours long sinking timeline?

They survived in the water - and no one claims that it took hours to sink.

Hmmm.... Everything I read said it took hours to sink. Even the guy who stepped off it while it slowly slipped under. Something they also never thought a ship would do, but eyewitness accounts say it happened. They had long trials over it with quite a bit of testimony.

I really liked it when I saw it in the theater, but it hasn't really stood the test of time from my point of view. Maybe it is Billy Zane's cartoonish villain, or DiCaprio's "aw shucks" good guy, or Kathy Bates's wise, salt-of-the-Earth matronly character, I don't know.

A good movie, but not one I would watch over and over like, say, Tommy Boy. :D

Actually the stern sinking is what's being challenged. The ship took a while to fill with water, but once it broke in half the stern was previously thought to have stayed boyant for @ 20min. Now they're estimating it was boyant for @ 5min.

This comes from the discovery of a large piece of hull section.

BTW, get past the romance first 1/3 and go from the ice berg on, it was good.

OK - thanks for the clarification. I knew that I had read something about it going down quickly.

Don't expect the makers of the movie to know. It cost millions to make and is full of anachronisms and other goofs which would have taken a few minutes of research to get right. :D

And yet... it made more money in a few months than you'll see in your lifetime. :D
