I know.... A rumor, but an interesting one for us. Even if the trade doesn't happen (which I doubt), it could indicate that the Titans are looking for a WR at #6, which means no CB drafted before we're on the board at #8..
FISHER LOOKING TO HOOK WILLIAMS?
We're hearing that Tennessee Time-servers coach Jeff Fisher is hoping to snag in the first round of the draft receiver Mike Williams.
The problem, however, is that the Titans have the sixth overall pick in the draft. The Bucs are sitting one spot ahead of them, at No. 5, and many believe that Tampa coach Jon Gruden will jump on Williams if he's still on the board when the Bucs pick.
So, as we hear, the Titans have initiated discussions with the Bears on a possible swap of positions in round one, if Williams is still available when Chicago is on the clock.
Whether the Bears would make the move likely depends on whether they ultimately want a running back in round one, or whether they're now eyeing Texas linebacker Derrick Johnson, who's most likely to be available at the six spot. If the Bears plan to go tailback, then they need to stay a step ahead of the Bucs, who are far more likely to pluck a pig-toter if Williams is gone.
One factor in this regard could be whether the Bears sign linebacker Anthony Simmons in the near future. Rumors of the possible acquisition have been floating around for the past few days, and it's possible that the Bears will no longer perceive a need for Johnson in round one if they believe that Simmons can get the job done.
Under the current version of the point system used by NFL teams to determine the value of movements on the draft board (which was developed in the 1990s by Jimmy Johnson), such a move likely would require Tennessee's second-rounder in the draft.
