Now might be the golden opportunity. Atlanta is looking to move salary. They have been trying to move Marvin Williams but can't. They want a pg and they want a center.

Is Dragic our pgotf? If not, move him. We need a starting pg out of this draft then anyway.

I am all for keeping Lopez and developing him, but if he can be packaged to bring in Smith, do it.

I'd trade Rolo for Josh Smith.

Dragic?

I don't know if Rolo alone would do it, maybe they would ask for Dragic. I might still do that because Dragic is expendable because this may be all we will get from him. Dowdell would be the backup then.

They'd be asking for hell of a lot more than Rolo and Dragic.

I continue to be mystified by the persistent fantasy that Smith is available for cheap. Where did this come from, and how does it survive?

I'd trade Rolo for Smith but I'd ask for a first round pick also.

Don't forget, the Suns would have to include Childress and Warrick to make salaries line up. But that's okay, because the Hawks already had Childress, and they were prepared to pay him almost a third of what the Suns were, so I can't see why they'd object to taking him back on. And they'll need another tweener forward to replace the void left by Smith, so that's where Warrick comes in.

I don't think it would be cheap. Atlanta thinks alot of Smith. I think alot of Smith. In our system, he would score 18-20 per night. He be at 9-11 rebounds, and he is a very good defensive player. It would take Rolo, maybe Dragic, Warrick and at least a pick. Can't include Childress because technically Atlanta traded his rights to us last summer and you can't trade a player back in the same calendar year.

Just checked. Unless it includes more players coming from ATL, the only combo that makes sense would Pietrus, Warrick, Lopez. If we included a pick, thats a decent deal for Atlanta. I would pull the trigger though.

Nash Dragic Dowdell
Carter, Dudley, Childress
Hill, Smith, Dudley
Smith, Frye
Gortat, Frye, Siler

Paying big money for a tweener or gimmick player like Josh Smith puts you automatically at a disadvantage when building a team.

I just don't see how it would make sense for us to have 6'8 PF for big money, that has no post up game offensively, has declining numbers, relies heavily on athleticism that is due to fade away eventually..

It puts so much pressure on surrounding Josh Smith with other players that cover the problems that result in him playing PF and not having a traditional PF. We would still have no low post scorer.

He has only two more years on his deal after this one. Who would you rather have in the meantime?

Sounds like Blake Griffin sans the declining numbers.

It's not just Smith, it goes way beyond Smith. My favorite is "Let's trade our crap (Warrick, Childress, Carter) for a legitimate PF," as if though 6'10"/ 250lb guys who can score 20+ points and grab 10+ rebounds grow on trees.

People don't seem to understand that it takes two teams to make a trade, and that the other team wants to improve, or at the very least, minimize their losses in any given trade.
In order to Get Smith, Hawks would want an expiring contract, young talent, or draft picks. They would also like to include another bad contract in that package. More realistic scenario is Smith and Marvin Williams for Carter, Lopez, and a first-round pick, or even two picks.

ESPN says he is 6-9, 240. That seems big enough for a pf. He plays like a pf. Every website calls him a pf. Fans and pundits say his best position is pf. He has no problem whatsoever defending the pf.

Watch the game. See if you still think he's a tweener when its over.

In a van...down by the river.
They can have anyone on this roster for JSmith besides Gortat,Duds and maybe Dragic as far as i'm concerned.

I'm not sure why Sarver continue's to hold on to something thats just not there in regards to developing a legit foundation upon which to build on. I mean, whats bringing in Josh Smith at PF(at the expense of losing some of our younger guys) going to do for Nash's team anyway? I'm serious.

I think his advisor, slinslin, has convinced him that we don't need another undersized tweener at the PF spot. Sarver, still stinging from the Hedo trade criticism is leery of taking on Smith's salary especially since Karl Malone junior should be available when we draft in the low teens.

Although it may not show this season, Utah likely put the Suns in their rear view mirror for years to come.

Every decent West team except for the Lakers have made a trade or at least involved talks for a trade....Suns stand PAT.

Shows you the difference between an awful management and well run management.
