Don't you work?So here was the day:
8 AM Free Wendy's Breakfast. Went with the lightest breakfast option and gave the potatoes and drink to my kid and kept the egg mcmuffin. Went to the 2 Starbucks in the neighborhood and got Wendy and I coffee
11 AM met my buddy at Lucille's BBQ and we had our very early vet lunch. I got the pulled pork sandwich no sides. They give you an extra $10 gift card.
12:30 PM. Little Ceasars free Pizza. That went to wife and daughter
12:45 PM Dickey's BBQ buy 1 get 1. Two sandwiches in the fridge for lunch another day
1:15 PM To Texas Roadhouse for the 6 month voucher.
3 PM Daughter and I to Dave and Busters to split my free meal and play the $10 game card. My 9 year old won half the games we played MUCH to my chagrin. I was not trying to lose.
Great fun day
For all the vet bros, Whataburger is giving free iced/hot coffee for the rest of the year
Don't you work?
I even had to work today. No day off at the rich private HS SMHNot today!!
I took one of the 8 of 120 hours of sick time I have that I can only roll 80 as a "personal day"
A personal day of getting fat and getting my ass beat by my kid at carnival games.
When I was a police officer and it fell on my normal day off, you would get it off obviously but if it didn’t, you had to work. Regardless off or not you got an extra 10 hours added to your vacation bank or 10 hours pay(your choice) so at least there was something…Lol on day off.. someone at work asked why I was in. Shouldn’t I have the day off. I have never held a job where I got Veterans day off..
The only benefit I guess is less traffic to work.
I wish I had known about it, love Black Angus although the closest is 45 minutes away.Anyone else get the free steak dinner at Black Angus for vets? Server said they had given out about 400 of them by around 7:30 pm.
It was good.
Me too, I've been cutting my own hair since 73 although I butchered the neckline a few times so my wife takes care of that part. Still, no trips to the barber since my basic training buzz cut at Fort Ord.I have been cutting my own hair with my own clippers (buzzcut) since I was in the military. Only thing I've changed is the length of the guards here and there, lol.
Probably saved me thousands upon thousands of dollars.
I had leftovers *cries*Anyone else get the free steak dinner at Black Angus for vets? Server said they had given out about 400 of them by around 7:30 pm.

Was my honor brother@oaken1 I thought you let it slip one day that you had taken a bullit for me. I'm eternally grateful. Thank you.
Federal holiday, bro!Don't you work?
Thanks for the appreciation gang.
I'm finally putting away the boots for good at the end of January. I retire after 20 years, but I've already started my new job and I my life outlook is better than ever.
I've told this story a number of times, but the greatest appreciation for my service was from an old Korean man I ran into outside of the War museum in Seoul. I was walking around the static displays of Korean War era equipment (aircraft, AAA guns, tanks, etc.) when this tiny old man walked up to me.
He started telling me about his experiences fighting in the war against the Chinese and North Koreans. After awhile, he turned to me with tears dripping out of his eyes and said, "And the Americans came and 35,000 of your people died so that we could be free. Thank you for your service." To this day, I still get choked up thinking about it.
I went to Korea once for Sharp Focus, a six-week Divisional exercise. While I was there, we looked at some of the Commander's Logs from the war for our unit (1st Battalion, 38th Infantry). It was crazy how much back and forth that war was and how much overall carnage happened. Most Americans have little knowledge of the Korean War. I suggest checking out the Blowback podcast season on Spotify on the Korean War. Lots of awful atrocities were committed during that war (mostly from the South Korean government). My grandpa was in that war.
Where at in Germany? In my family, my cousin (Army) served in Germany during peace time as a translator, my father (Army) served in Vietnam, my grandpa (Navy) served in WWII, my grandma's brother (Army) also served (and died) in WWII.
Saw a great shirt at the Cardinals' game over the weekend. It said, "We don't know them all, but we owe them all."
Thanks to all who have served. Much respect.
I'd have to ask him. He is about a year and a half older than I am so he would have been maybe class of 87, I think. He went to Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix just so he could join their ROTC program, took German there, and enlisted right out of high school and ended up translating somewhere in Germany. Served a few years, came home and was a Phoenix police officer for 20 years before retiring.Where at in Germany?
I appreciate it, gang.
As a disabled vet in search of a new career years ago, I decided I wanted to help fellow disabled vets, specifically those dealing with trauma. My new career in social work then started, I eventually got into the VA and became a trauma therapist (amongst other things), and have worked my way up to become the mental health champion of the Pittsburgh VA. I get to do a job I absolutely love and get to give back to those who deserve our support so much. Can't ask for a better career than that
