Brady is going to be 36 at the start of this season and he had two years on his current deal - if that expired he'd be a 38 year old QB looking for his last paycheck ... if you use favre as a template he could probably get more than this amount per year, but not the same level of guarantees
This deal essentially smooths out his current salary while increasing his guaranteed money exponentially ....... they're also in a position where they could rework the deal again in the future if he's still slinging at 39
They also have a great amount of trust between the players and front office on a team that is always just a tweak or two away from the SB
The contract Fitzgerald is on is his "prime" contract and he's at a really good money part of it right now and is 30 .... the cards are a little hamstrung in what they can do with him and his contract will run until he is 35/36 (expires at 35 - he'd be 36 heading into the next season) ..... If I were Fitz maybe i'd consider a similar arrangement - in 2 to 3 years, but not at this time
