Lost in the news cycle of the Wednesday Night Wars and WWE's recent announcer shake-up were the once-promising careers of Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton, who had become mainstays each week on SmackDown Live. Phillips always felt like the de facto heir apparent to Michael Cole as the milquetoast and malleable voice of WWE, while Saxton carved out a useful niche as the babyface yin to Corey Graves' yang. One of the more surprising developments coming out of the formation of new Raw and SmackDown announce teams, however, was the lack of a new home for both Saxton and Phillips.
