Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures, MGM
Director: Roar Uthaug
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for sequences of violence and action, and for some language)
Screenwriters: Geneva Dworet-Robertson, Alastair Siddons

Starring: Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Sir Derek Jacobi, Kristin Scott Thomas

Plot Summary: Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Leaving everything she knows behind, Lara goes in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.

This looks like it's going to be a fun ride. I was obsessed with these games when they came out. Holy crap, she looks great in the part.

Not horrible, but not great either. I thought it was refreshing to see a video game movie that actually adapted the video game instead of being just “based” on one.

Great casting for Lara but my main problem with the movie is that she is supposed to be solo in the games. Especially the game they we’re adapting. Here she was always with a big group, and someone who is supposed to be a part of her past is in the movie a lot.

Good "meh" or bad "meh"? There are a lot of mediocre movies that still entertain me, but even more that don't. We come close to watching it and then back away from the remote because of all the really bad reviews. Still, we like the lead actress and the genre so we're tempted to throw away some money.

It was a wannabe Indiana Jones movie that didn't quite make it for me. Puzzles too easily solved, obvious plots, instant healing, etc.

I watched the entire movie and it was ok, but I'm glad I saw it for free on the plane.

Just "meh." ;)

saw this on hbo. other than the star not having Lara crofts legendary attributes it was a good flick.

it was good as an origin flick..... Lara was obviously a level 1 character starting out and slowly leveled as the movie progressed.

I liked the groundwork laid for Trinity,...so she has an arch nemesis in all movies going forward. The only thing that can make this movie suck is if they leave it as a stand alone...because its weak as a stand alone.... but if they follow it up with three or four sequels,...this one was a great origin for Lara Croft

You've highlighted one of the major trends in Hollywood mistakes in the past years. They'll make an origin movie that's kind of weak in order to set up all the sequels, which will then never get made because the first movie was weak. IMO you cannot have a weak first movie that's only setting up the origin. Doesn't work these days.
