Corbin goes 8 innings gives up 1 run, leaves with a lead, the team wins, but the win goes to a pitcher that got three outs.

True for tithe most part... However, Corbin is 9 & 0.
Corbin has started 14 games and the D'backs have won, I think, 13 of them. That's a quality pitcher.

9-0 instead of 13-1. The whole league knows how good he is.

This was the point I was making in Cahill's last start - Collmenter pitched 6 strong innings, but didn't have the lead. Bell gave up a run and a couple base runners, but got the save.

This was debated 10 years ago when we signed Elmer Dessens.

Just wait until you get to the usefulness of ERA.

If a reliever pitches full innings (which they usually do), ERA is useful. But not as useful as with a starter who goes, for example, 7 innings each start.

If a reliever comes with inherited runners, his ERA is meaningless.

Not exactly what I was meaning. Keep digging and you can find it.
