I dunno - if you give him a low tender, that actually allows him to find his market value (versus market value minus a second round pick). It may make sense for both the team and the player to have a low tender, which allows them to shop themselves and find their 'real' value, which the Cardinals can match.

I think it's pretty smart.

This gives some logic to the Cardinal's decision.

Be unhappy with the Almighty Jefferson for not making you faster or taller because that is why your limited from being a superstar that corresponds to big money... be thankful you can play in the NFL and get the respect of being a good player despite those drawbacks

And for good reason. The combination of a high tender and a good upcoming season would have a positive effect in FA next season.

That said; nothing precludes a new longer deal this off-season either set by an offer or independently negotiated.

To me this tender was made to know the real value of jefferson in the market
If u put a 2nd round tender nobody will make an offer
Now they will and arizona could possible match it
So I dont think is understimate by our GM

Yes, it's fair to Jefferson...who has earned that. If we keep him, good for us. If he strikes it rich elsewhere outside of the division...congrats. ;)

He deserves it. Very sad to lose him. Arguably best run stopping S in the NFL.

But if we can replace him with a Malik Hooker or Jamal Adams, thatd be an upgrade. No disrepsect to Jefferson, but both those guys are better in coverage.

I feel strongly that safeties should be coverage guys, 1st and foremost. We have DL and LBs to deal with the run. I want a SS and FS who can get INTs

Tony is pretty damn great in coverage when it comes to TEs, so we'll miss him there.

DJ and Jefferson are almost the same player. If I had to choose from the two I would take DJ all day. He's an intimidator and brings a nastiness to our D that Jefferson cannot.

Eh, he's OK. He has 2 career INTs since 2013.

For comparison Tyrann has 9 INTs since 2013, and hes played in half the games due to injury.

either way, Hooker or Adams will be a major upgrade. In fact, Hooker will probably leap to the #1 FS spot in the NFL.

Can have Swearinger at SS, whos also pretty good in coverage (6 INts).

I know you're not basing covering ability off of INTs, right? C'mon now.

I really hope we get him back, but I have a feeling he'll end up walking after being slighted by the godawful low tender last year.

I just don't know how much we can justify paying to the safety position.

Cardinals are serious about Jefferson, which translates to... we are not signing Campbell and have no intention, too much money for our cap space

No, not entirely. But Its absolutely relevant. A pass rusher who has 2 career sacks, thats concerning even if he does get pressure most downs.

If you are a shutdown corner who only gets thrown at 3x per game, I can understand having low INT numbers. But Patrick as one of those 3x per game guys himself has 20.

If looking at safeties, Eric Berry has 14.

Safeties in general should be getting more picks than any other player. Tony is good in coverage, but only 2 picks matters.

So what would a fair contract be for Tony Jefferson to stay with the Cardinals? 4yr/20 million with 10-12 million guaranteed?

The guy drew no interest last offseason on just the tender & ended the year on the IR with an MCL sprain...

If the Cardinals actually felt this way regarding Campbell, why would they be in talks with his agent?

Sure, talk to him, what is there to lose... but cap space and hometown discounts are not coming with these two guys and either one breaks the bank for the other in my opinion
