Give your list of the Top 3 mistakes the current regime of LaRussa, Stewart and Hale have made thus far... Mine:

1.) Shelby Miller Trade (though Inciarte is barely hitting above the Mendoza line and Blair is sporting an 0 & 3 record and 6.6 ERA)... Remains to be seen what Swanson turns into...

2.) Tomas and $68.5 MILLION... Uggghhh...

3.) Bringing Archie Bradley back way too soon last season...

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking about.

1) Would be the Shelby Miller Trade - #1-#3 in fact.

the Tomas deal doesn't bother me - we swung for the fences and got a single/double instead. I still have hope for him.

"Single/Double"??? The .265 with a .764 OPS. By any measure (and I'm sure DWKB or some other sabre guy could toss out a ton of damning stats), he has been barely major league worthy. He's putrid!

So then you must hate having Brandon Drury in the line-up

Dury has better stats across the board and is making a fraction of Tomas's ridiculous $10 Million per... What's not to like?

His WAR is worse than Tomas.

And once the season starts, salaries are not really an issue.

They are if there is pressure from the Front Office on Chip Hale to keep Tomas as the primary LF to justify his paycheck in hopes of saving face.

We'll see when Peralta returns back to full strength. He, Drury, Bourne, Herrmann and Owings are all all better hitters and fielders than Tomas. That's 5!!!!! (one exclamation point for each :) ).

Even of Owings returns to SS and Ahmed's weak bat loses his starting spot, that's still 4 players better than Tomas for the outfield.

The only justification for Tomas remaining as the primary LF (even though the fans don't consider it justification) would be his salary.

Tomas's .764 OPS translates to an OPS+ of 100. That isn't what you want from a somewhat expensive corner outfielder, but it isn't apocalyptic. He's a 25 year old Cuban import who, improvement so far over last season notwithstanding, we just don't know enough about yet. Such is the danger with the international market.

Hiring his boy Stewart
Trading for Shelby Miller
Signing Ya$many

We gave Tomas the same contract the white sox gave Abreu, are you kidding me?

I'm not sure how I feel about TLR moving forward.. If he ditches Stewart he may regain some of my faith. Maybe he's calling all the shots and Stewart is his puppet, who knows

If you look at th vacuum of this year, Tomas and Drury are interchangeable. Drury's WAR is hurt more by his defense and that is hurt by his 3B play. Take away those 3B innings and he's probably just as valuable as Tomas.

This thread isn't about this year in a vacuum. We now have 600+ PAs of Tomas as a less than replacement batting poor fielder. We owe him $48.5 for the next 4 seasons. We are a $100M payroll team. He is unreadable and seriously hinders our ability to make moves in the future.

How much are we obligated to pay Drury in 2020?

As for my mistakes, they look a lot like GatorHater's

Hall

I'm not a Kendricks fan for sure. I think he is a real mean SOB. However, he brought in LaRussa in May of 2014 and basically gave him al the authority to run the entire baseball operations as the newly created position of Chief of Baseball Operations. He also spent the money that TLR wanted in paying Tomas and Greinke. TLR cleaned house after the 2014 season and brought in his guys;
Stewart and Hale. IMO, TLR is the one that is accountable for this disaster. In this mornings Arizona Republic, Sportswriter Paola Boivin tells us all to have patience. Things will get better:shrug:
Meanwhile who wants to pay to see this team play.

This isn’t fully accurate.
Reports insinuate Kendrick and Hall were heavily involved in grabbing Greinke. Stewart was really not involved.
Kendrick’s payroll cap caused the moves of trading Toussaint (because we couldn’t write off Arroyo’s contract) and trading of Swanson, Blair, and Inciarte because we couldn’t afford to add Cueto.
