In the NFL draft, anything can happen. The best wide receiver in the class could even fall to the end of the first round, into the waiting arms of Les Snead and Sean McVay.

Anything is possible, right?

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks has that exact scenario playing out in his latest mock draft, which would be an unquestioned home run for the Los Angeles Rams. In Brooks’ new projection, he has Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan falling – nay, plummeting – to the Rams at No. 26 overall in Round 1.

If you haven’t seen McMillan’s name connected to the Rams in any mock drafts, it’s because everyone expects him to go in the top 15, likely even the top 10. He’s the top wide receiver in the class and Brooks doesn’t dispute that by making him the first wideout drafted.

He just doesn’t see a single team taking a receiver in the first 25 picks, which is hard to imagine happening.

Adding a big-bodied pass catcher to a lineup that already features Puka Nacua further expands the strike zone for Matthew Stafford.

As for McMillan’s fit in the Rams’ offense, it’s perfect. He’s 6-foot-4 and 219 pounds with a huge catch radius and 4.5 speed. He’d be an ideal target for Matthew Stafford, who loved throwing to Calvin Johnson in Detroit (honestly, who wouldn’t?).

There are tiny concerns about his downfield speed but those are completely overblown. Anything in the 4.5 range for a 6-4 receiver with his length is perfectly fine.

McMillan would be an X- or Z-receiver like Davante Adams, complementing Puka Nacua nicely as a deep threat. Though the Rams no longer have a true slot receiver with Cooper Kupp gone, Nacua and Adams are both more than capable of playing inside.

As fun as it is to think about McMillan falling to the Rams, there’s about a 0.5% chance of that happening.

“So you’re telling me there’s a chance,” Lloyd Christmas says.
